C1 Colombo Fort is the perfect place to get some sleep before or after arriving in Sri Lanka. The facilities are very similar to a hotel. Due to this, and the price, travelers will probably only use it for a night before either going home or moving on. Meeting people may therefore be difficult. It's immaculately clean and a short walk from the airport shuttle bus services, and the beds are extremely comfortable.
The Location
It's a ten-minute walk from the train station and Colombo's main bus station. Cross the busy road so that you are on the opposite side of the road from the train station. Next, walk along the road, keeping the station on your left. Walk for approximately five hundred meters, and go over the river. After the river you will come to a large busy junction. Cross over to the other side towards the People's Bank and turn right. Walk for twenty meters, and turn left before the KFC. The hostel will be just ahead on your right.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Dorms are spacious and furnished to a high standard with beds similar to pods. The mattresses and pillows are incredibly soft -- perfect for a good night's sleep before your flight -- and each bed comes with a reading light and plug socket. Air conditioning is present and you have full control of the remote to set it as cold as you like. The bathrooms are immaculately clean and have lovely hot showers. They're also located throughout the building so waiting is never an issue.
Common Spaces
The main common area is just like a posh hotel lobby, with comfy chairs and tables where a free breakfast is served each day. This isn't anything great and just consists of toast and fruit with tea/coffee. Upstairs near the dorms, there are better places to hangout -- these areas have bean bags and a TV. However, it's unlikely that you'll see anyone here as most people tend to stay in the dorms if in the hostel. If you want to meet people, the morning breakfast will probably be your only option as most guests turn up for this.
Summary
This is definitely not a social hostel, as most people just pass through before or after the airport. The layout doesn't encourage socializing either. It is, however, a safe, clean, and very comfortable place to sleep if you're after somewhere quiet. The location is also a big plus, as you'll be near the main transport links.
