Mítico Hostel is a fun hostel with a social atmosphere, located near the Valparaíso bus station. Despite being a half-hour walk from the centre, this hostel is quite popular and a good place to meet other travelers. Many people end up staying longer than planned!

The Location

The location is convenient for those arriving by bus who would prefer not to spend money on a taxi, since it is just one block from the bus terminal. The large Mercado Cardonal is also nearby, offering a huge selection of fruits and vegetables. This is not the safest area, particularly at night, and we were warned by locals to keep our valuables out of sight, even during daylight.

The more touristic areas of Valparaíso, such as Cerro Alegre, Cerro Concepcion, the central square, and the port are about a half-hour walk away.

The location of Mítico Hostel lacks the arty, bohemian vibe for which Valparaíso is known; the more central touristic areas are better for this. However, the location will appeal to some for its proximity to the bus station and market.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Mítico Hostel has both dorms and private rooms. Rooms feel quite spacious, with high ceilings and plenty of space around and under beds for your belongings. There is good security; all rooms are lockable and there are lockers available in dorms.

There are a few bathrooms spread around the hostel. They are small and basic but usually kept well-stocked with toilet paper and soap. They are in good working order and kept fairly clean. There can be a wait for bathrooms in the morning if many people want to shower at the same time.

Common Spaces

Mítico Hostel has a sociable, party vibe, with events happening most evenings. There are lots of common areas, which are a great place to meet other travelers. Some of the decor is a little shabby, but the building itself is very pretty (an old building with high-ceilings) and there is enough natural light to give the place a cheery feel. There is a communal kitchen, although it is very small and gets crowded around meal times. There are also numerous seating areas and a small outdoor balcony where people usually drink in the evenings.

Summary

As one of the most budget-friendly options in Valparaíso, Mítico Hostel can be forgiven for its distance from the centre. Mítico Hostel has a fun atmosphere and is a great place to meet other travelers over a few drinks. The friendly atmosphere and nightly events keep many guests staying longer than planned!

Location

• From the Bus Terminal of Valparaiso walking:
• Simply walk to the main junction of Avenida Pedro Montt and Avenida Uruguay and cross to the left, we are just one and a half block up the street.
• From the Airport of Santiago by several means of transport:
• Take the bus to Pajaritos metro station, and from there take a bus to Valparaiso, that can be found on the very same platform.
• Three different companies go to Valparaiso every 15 minutes each. So, you don’t need to reserve beforehand.
