18/12 Hostel Krakow is a good, cheap hostel not too far from the center. 18/12 Hostel is more like an apartment with a dorm room. The check-in process could not be easier; show up, show proof of your identity, and get shown to your room. That's it. Payment is handled by the booking site.

The Location

The hostel is in a residential neighborhood, about fifteen minutes on foot to Florianska Gate. There isn't much to do in the surrounding area, but there is a Zabka nearby. There is also a really beautiful park just a few minutes away on foot that is a pleasant escape from the crowds in the center. The neighborhood feels very safe.

A lack of signage makes the hostel a bit difficult to find; also, it's located on the third floor of a lovely old building, so those with lots of luggage may want to know that there is no lift.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorm is uncluttered and bright. Each wooden bunk has plenty of power outlets and a lamp. Towels are included in the room rate and placed on the bed with clean sheets. There are tall lockers with locks, plus unlocked storage under the bunks. The room is clean; it's not huge, but is spacious enough.

There is one full bath for all guests. Water is hot and bathroom is clean. It is not uncommon to have to wait to use the toilet or shower.

Common Spaces

There is a large living room with two nice couches. In the living room is a computer and printer for communal use. The living room is a mix of modern and stylish and cluttered. Guests are permitted to store their luggage in the living room after check-out, but it looks like the hostel also stores miscellaneous items around the common areas as well.

The hostel boasts a spacious kitchen and offers complimentary coffee and tea. There is also an espresso machine; guests can purchase espresso drinks.

Just off the kitchen is a balcony that would be nice to go out on, however it seems to be used for storage at the moment.

Summary

It could be the time of year, but this hostel is a bit on the sleepy side. It doesn't seem to attract many foreigners. It seems as though there are people living in the hostel full time. It feels much more like an Airbnb where the owner occupies the space than a hostel. It is a clean and safe budget option for those willing to say further away from the center.
