Village House is a homestay-style hostel with an impressive dorm but not much else that is particularly outstanding about it; its common areas are old fashioned, the free bikes for rent are really old and rusty, and the breakfast in not particularly exciting, but the family running the place really goes out of their way to ensure that you enjoy your stay.
The Location
Village House is located under the famous bridge of Phong Nha, so you will have to drive toward the town and at the junction turn left, as there is no shortcut on the other side. While the hostel is a bit further away from the centre than most other backpackers, it is still in walking distance. Bicycles are available for rent for free for guests, but these are quite old and do not look too safe. The best aspect about the location is that the hostel is next to the river, and while the main building itself is a bit further, you can chill in the garden belonging to it that is right on the river shore.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The best thing about staying here is the luxurious dorm room in which you will stay. It is really modern, impeccably clean, and the spacious bunk beds inside it come with curtains so you get a lot of privacy. The rooms are cooled by air conditioning, which is of really good quality. The dorm is en suite and the bathroom is of an equally high standard.
Common Spaces
The hostel offers a number of common areas. There is a little garden with a covered part, under which you have some comfy but old couches and tables. There are also some benches right next to the river if you just want to look at the view and relax. Inside, there is a living room with some sofas, but it feels too much like a family living area, so you might feel like you are intruding into the private space of the owners. There is also a terrace with some eating areas and there is a kitchen which is available for guest use upon request. The price of the room also includes breakfast, which you can choose from a list of options like pancakes or egg dishes.
Summary
Village House in not a bad choice if what you enjoy is spending time with a local family and experiencing their life first hand. However, it is a little bit away from the center and is definitely not one of the trendiest places either.

Our hostel is based in Cu Lac village near the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park 1 km from Phong Nha main town and 45 km far from Dong Hoi city where all bus station, train station and airport are. The easiest and most comfortable way to get to us from Dong Hoi is to take a private car arranged by our homestay. By this way, you will be picked up on your arrival by our driver who will hold a sign with your name on it, thus you will easily recognize our driver. The private car will cost 500,000 VND and takes 45 minutes. The cheaper way is to hire a motorbike driver to drive you to Phong Nha if you don’t mind seating in he back of the motorbike for an hour. The motorbike should cost around 250,000 VND. Also, there are public buses which leave Dong Hoi city every hour starts at 5:00 a.m. The public bus costs 35,000 VND but take about 2 hours to get to Phong Nha.
