The Lion Fish Hostel is a hostel right in the middle of town, close to everything, but at the same time far enough from the noise to give you a good night sleep :) It is a relatively small hostel. The building itself has a couple of years on its back, but we have just (Oct 2017) completed refurbishing all the dorms and private rooms and also improved the communal areas. We are proud to offer a hostel with a good vibe and modern feel for a very good price. We also offer free morning coffee and WIFI.

Rooms:
The Lion Fish offers private rooms as well as dormitories, where the private rooms come with and without en-suite bathroom. The dorms can contain four to ten beds. The biggest dorm (Guilas) has single beds, the rest have bunk beds. Due to the different sizes of the dorms, if you are a group, you will essentially get a private room for the price of a dorm. Book ahead to be certain!
Bathrooms:
There are several bathrooms in the building, 3 downstairs and 2 upstairs. The downstairs have warm showers.
Common Spaces:
In the reception are several couches and a little library.
Upstairs you will find a lounge area and the kitchen. The kitchen is big and well equipped and has a communal fridge.
In the back garden we have a seating area and a bar. Here you can hang out just to read a book or drink beer and play beer-pong. The drinks are very cheap!
General:
Reception hours are from 07:00-22:00, if you want to check in/out before/after hours, please contact the staff/call the hostel to make arrangements. After 22:00, the gate will be closed but we have a night guard until 03:00 on weekdays and 04:00 on weekends that will let you in. If you come to late, I hope you have a good after party to go to :)
To provide the best price possible, the staff is mainly volunteers. They are a great bunch of people who will as best as they can answer all of your questions. It might be that they will need a bit of time to investigate though to answer some questions.

• • From the airport in Alajuela The Lion Fish Hostel can be reached either by bus, car or shuttle. If you are planning on arriving by bus, you need to take the bus from Terminal de buses de San Carlos to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. The bus leaves at 6, 9, 12, 14, 16, 18 and goes directly to Puerto Viejo.
• • If you are planning on arriving by car, you need to take the ruta 32 San Jose-Limon by Parque Nacional Braulio Carrillo, then follow the signs to Puerto Viejo.
• • You can also take a shuttle from the airport all the way to Puerto Viejo which costs around $150.
