Backpackers Paradise Colombo is good for a one-night stop over or a short stay! It's nothing against the hostel itself, there just isn’t too much to do in Colombo!
The Location
The hostel is easy to find -- from the airport get the free bus to Colombo Fort, then a short tuk tuk or bus (or if you're feeling up to it you could technically walk -- it all depends on your preferences). There are some restaurants a short walk from the hostel and it’s easy to get buses to get to other parts of the city! The train station is a short tuk tuk or bus away also, making it easy as a stopover point on your travels. It’s a quiet residential area without much going on -- it's great for sleep but not the best choice if you want to be in the heart and hustle and bustle of the city.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Rooms are nice, with comfy beds and a nice amount of space in the room for bags; there are small storage units in the room with drawers, so if you want to organise your stuff a little or unpack, it's easily possible! You don’t get a sheet or blanket as standard and we were told it was due to the hot weather, but if you request one they will provide one. The bathroom is equipped with a standard shower, sink, and toilet; it is a good size and has a large mirror. On the downside, the floor often gets wet and can become slippery!
Common Spaces
The common space in the hostel makes it easy to meet other travelers staying there; there are comfy sofas, as well as a full-size dining table and chairs. As it's used for meal times and socialising, the common area always has someone in it! The kitchen area is well equipped and the hostel provides breakfast and meals if requested! The atmosphere is very chilled and quiet -- if you're looking for excitement, you won’t find it here!
Summary
The hostel is clean and comfortable, with nice decor and new furnishings. We would go as far as to say it’s one of the cleanest hostels in which we’ve ever stayed! It's a great place to stay for a night or two whilst passing through Colombo or making connections with trains or if you're headed to or from the airport. It's not, however, a choice for party-goers, people who want to be close to the heart of the city, or for people wanting something really close to the airport!
