We arrived to Berg Blick Hostel very early, and staff were friendly and helpful in letting us leave our baggage so we could hike while we waited to check in at 2 p.m. Staff members can provide some helpful tips for what to see and where to go and can give some insight into the best routes to take.
The Location
Berg Blick is a fifteen-minute walk from Kochel station, and the lake (Kochelsee) is just five minutes down the road. It's another fifteen-minute walk to the paths to Lainbackfall (the big waterfall) and twenty or so minutes from the nearest supermarket (Edeka Activ). Overall, Berg Blick is very central.
Rooms and Bathrooms
In the rooms, sheets, a duvet, and a pillow are provided. The mattress is very comfortable for a hostel dorm. Rooms have a balcony and lockers. The room we stayed in has a single and two double bunk beds. Some rooms do have a skylight.
The bathroom is shared between two six-bed rooms, but is immaculate and feels a lot more like a hotel bathroom than a hostel bathroom! There is a radiator on which to dry wet clothes, and a dish where you could put your soap. The bathroom also and has an actual bath, which is a nice touch and lovely to relax in after a long day outdoors.
Common Spaces
Downstairs is a café, with fairly reasonably priced with tasty food. Breakfast is also reasonably priced and offers an average continental selection. Between the two dorms there is an area complete with beanbags, a sofa of sorts, a fully-stocked cupboard with glasses/plates, a microwave, and a kettle. There is no fridge, which is a minor disadvantage, but everything else is sound and clean.
During our stay these spaces weren't a great place to meet people due to the small amount of rooms (and the lack of English tourists), but it is a nice touch. This hostel would be excellent for a group stay, as there is plenty of room to spread out.
Summary
Berg Blick is clean, quiet, relaxing, and calm. It isn't social or very international; it is mainly for German families and hikers and if you want a social hostel, this isn't the place for you. However, if you're a hiker looking for a respite from the activities of the day, this is the place for you.
