Cis de Champagne is hosts corporate workers, traveling teams, or groups of people and backpackers.
The Location
The hostel is not located in the center of the city, so you have to walk a little to get there. From the city's center it takes about fifteen minutes by foot. The CIS is very big and there are always groups of people walking to and from the city.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel offers private and dorm rooms, all of which are locked with electronic keys. They don't have in-room lockers, but there is a luggage storing room. There are bunk beds and twin beds available. Some rooms have a private toilet and shower but it is more expensive that way. There is always a common toilet room and shower room in each floor. The private showers are not very well designed and it is difficult not to spill water outside the shower area.
Common Spaces
The hostel has a number of different common areas, from outside benches and tables to conference rooms and inside sitting areas. There is no kitchen but all prices include breakfast. The hostel is usually booked by companies and traveling sports teams but there is also young backpackers. It is easy to meet people if you hang out in the conference rooms, which also serve as common rooms in the evening, but this is not a very sociable hostel. The atmosphere is mostly indifferent.
Summary
Cis de Champagne is actually the only hostel in Reims, so it is always booked, but it is not a very friendly place, although it is safe. It is not exactly a hostel so it is not necessarily warm as hostels tend to be. It is just a place to stay the night.
Having stayed here twice I found the food good, the rooms clean and spacious, the en-suite very convenient and the staff very obliging and friendly. It is abovr the average standard of this type of hostel
and is very cheap and convenient. Excellent conference and reception facilities.
Comfortable and clean, although if you want food I suggest you don't eat in the restaurant because the food was absolutely rubbish. Also, the guy who owns it doesn't like any noise at all, so if you are in your rooms you can't make much noise.
I was actually surprised that this hostel was a bit better than most HIs, though it still had the large, group-oriented feel. It has nice rooms, which are really cheap. It's probably the best I could ask for in an HI hostel, so I can't complain.
I visited this hotel with my school in England. It was ok, but not great. There could have been more to do in our rooms and in the hotel itself. The tv was ok -- I liked the game shows. The only thing I didn't like was the number of other people there and not being allowed to make much noise. Also I'm a vegetarian and there weren't many choices in vegetarian food.
Clean and comfortable, but not a good place to meet other travellers. Mostly it was just workers and students there when I stayed (and a few dodgy people). It does have great facilities (kitchen, TV room) and is close to town. It would be fine if you are the sort of person who doesn't want to meet anyone and doesn't mind being hit on by dodgy men!
Liked: Comfortable, clean room, good breakfast - great value for money! Short walk into town. Didn't like: It's a bit hard to meet other travellers if you're travelling solo - there's no real common space to hang out.
Liked: Almost everything :) Didn't like: The highway is too close, so at an open window it is very noisy (however it is almost silent at closed windows).
Liked: they have a good coffee machine Didn't like: breakfast not good. No place to meet others, only in the bedroom. When you take a shower, the whole bathroom is wet, that you cant use toilett etc.
Liked: Nice location near a pretty park. Good breakfast in the morning. Beds were comfortable and wifi reliable. Didn't like: it was very annoying to have to keep pushing the shower on, since it only stays for about 30seconds a time.
Liked: It's ok if you wan to stay one or two nights. Didn't like: Not much facilities.
Liked: Cleanliness and space of rooms Didn't like: A little out of town
Liked: Aside from comment below we had a good stay and breakfast has lots of it. Didn't like: Map wrong, and because of the road system and traffic, this may cost you an hour or more! They also do what a number of hotels do - 'Total cost' you are told when booking doesn't mean total cost - the tax is only small, but it is dishonest and the staff don't care.
Liked: It offered everything I needed, and at great value. Very pleased! Didn't like: Nothing.
Liked: Ok location about 5 min walk to the main street, my room backed onto a loud road that you had to sleep with the window closed. Ok breakfast nothing great . Had a lounge type area and some games but the place seemed very quite in general. very nice and helpful staff. Didn't like: If I wanted to use the in room safe I would have to pay! Breakfast finished at 9am, way too early and check out not that they seem to care too much is 9.30am. A few more directions would be great eg from the tram station keep following the train tracks around the corner and its on your left. Decent way from the train station, 5- 10 minutes by tram.
nice place~nice price~
location is good, and not so far from everywhere
i love it
Why did you put a star in the middle of the map. This so confused us, it wasnt representing the hostel, merely the centre of Reims. Grrrr. We could nt find the hostel for an hour. The actual hostel was fine, quiet and clean. But very very hot in the room
showers we're annoying, had to push a button every 30 seconds almost to get water. Other nuisence, not their fault, but it was hard to get to, we missed the parking spot once and had to drive around for 20 minutes to get back, because of the road construction. Once this is done however it will be really handy, coz the trams will be nice and close :) Everything else was really good, free parking, fooseball tables, WIFI and breakfast we're all really good!
rooms OK and the staff were good and very helpfulls. The kitchen was a total mess, couldn't even boil som water!
