Honestly speaking, I was greatly surprised to find such comfortable place. People like me always moving from one place to another know that is not easy to find a place that gives you the feeling of well being. My room was simple but well decorated; the bath and the kitchen are very clean and have everything you could need, so I recommend Kris's guesthouse also for long stays. Kris is a very friendly, helpful and nice person and always tries to do as much as she can to make your stay comfortable. It takes 30 minutes with a Path (check on the Net) train from Journal Square. Thank you, Kris Rocco
I stayed at Kris' guesthouse during August 2005. The stay was very comfortable and exciting. I came to know lot of people from other places like Manchester, UK, London, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Turkey, etc. Kris is a very kind person and does everything possible to see that her guests are happy and satisfied. If people are visiting New York/New Jersey for the first time, Kris will give some very good tips about the important places they can visit, directions and mode of transport to reach the destination points. The room was very big and clean. The kitchen was also very big and I could cook whatever I wanted. The bathrooms were also big and very clean. You can stay at this place for a relatively cheap price and be in the close vicinity of New York. It took me about 20 minutes to reach New York by Path Train and the Path Train station is about 10 streets away from the guesthouse. Kris's family members are also very hospitable. Once I forgot to take the key while going out and locked the door. When I returned in the evening and told this to her son/daughter, both of them found another key and opened the room door for me. It was very nice gesture on their part. The other guests were respectful and kind. We had a very nice time. In fact, we used sit around the dining table and discuss some common things. I will strongly refer this place to anybody who wants stay in a quiet neighborhood and visit New York. Lastly, Kris, thank you very much for your hospitality and I would certainly stay at this place when I visit NY next time.
If you are coming to New York City, it's best to STAY in New York City! This hostel is quite far from the City. It takes about 1 to 1.5 hours to get to uptown NYC from this place. Though the setting is quiet and clean, the treatment of guests is a bit rough. I did not feel like a guest at this hostel. There is no breakfast (not even a lousy cup of coffee) and the hostess keeps asking you when you are leaving, since she does not trust anyone to be in her house when she is not there! (One should ask her: "Why are you advertising on the Net that you have a hostel?!") I will never stay at this place again nor would I recommend anyone to do so!
We've spent ten days at Kris' guesthouse and a great New Year's Eve in New York! By staying at this place we saved a lot of money (especially at this time). Everything was clean, and we could use a big kitchen. And we felt really welcome, because Kris helped us with everything. She picked us up from the airport and brought us back, when we nearly missed the plane, and she had always some useful advice. So now we're sure where to stay on our next trip to New York!

Kris is very kind and so is her family. When we got lost on the way to the hostel, she gave us directions over the phone. And the next night when our other plans fell through, Kris still found a place for us; and in the middle of the night!! This was way above and beyond the call of duty!! The accomodations were lovely, a lot like staying at your couisin's house. The rooms were clean, and so was the bathroom. The other guests were respectful and kind. This was a wonderful experience, and I would definitely stay here again.
This place is very comfortable, cheap, and cool!!
I have visited Kris' guesthouse for three nights at the end of November and have to say that the time was really great. You can stay for a relatively low price and you have really friendly hosts, Kris and her family, who are very hospitable! I had also the possibility to park my car in their garage! ...and to New York City it takes you only 20 minutes by bath-train!
