Sabah Pansiyon Reviews

Sabah Pansiyon is conveniently located inside the Old City of Antalya. The staff are friendly and helpful. We arrived very early on an overnight bus from Cappadocia and the staff allowed us to check in early. The hostel provides an excellent buffet-style breakfast that's served in a location across the alley from the hostel. The breakfast is typical Turkish fare -- hard-boiled eggs, cucumber, tomato, a variety of Turkish breads, feta cheese, tubs of chocolate spreads and jams, fruit, cereal, and tea and coffee.

The Location

Sabah is easy to locate when following the directions provided by the hostel. From the main bus station, take a local bus that is going to the Old City and get off at the exit just after Hadrian's Gate. Backtrack to enter the Old City through Hadrian's Gate and stay on the main road until you see the sign for the hostel on the right side after the "Broken Minaret." From the hostel, the entire Old City is easily walkable. It is a few minutes' walk to the beach. Kiosks, shops, bars, and restaurants are right outside the door. Despite this excellent location, the hostel is quiet and one can easily get a good, quiet night's sleep.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There is a four-bed mixed dorm and a variety of private rooms available. The hostel will also use private rooms as additional dorms if the dorm room is booked and people already staying in it choose to extend their stay. The rooms are not overly spacious, but it's sufficient. There are no lockers, but the rooms are secure and lockable with a key. The beds and pillows are comfortable and towels are provided. The shared bathrooms are clean and with hot water and there's enough space to change clothes.

Common Spaces

There are numerous sitting areas around the hostel. The main floor has a nice outdoor area with tables and chairs. The second floor has an additional lounge area with floor seating and lots of cushions. There are ample power outlets for charging electronics and good Wi-Fi that reaches all areas, including the rooms. There is a book exchange and the hostel offers luggage storage. This is not a party hostel and the overall atmosphere of the hostel can be a bit lacking. The outdoor area is pleasant, but not necessarily conducive to meeting other travelers.

Overall, Sabah is a pleasant hostel and a good pick, especially given its excellent location inside the Old City.

An excellent place to stay!

I would gladly go back to Sabah Pansiyon and stay there again. I have been doing so every winter for the past eleven years. It is the finest, friendliest place to stay in Antalya for its price. Most important is the ambiance. Three brothers and their mother own and operate the pansiyon and they all do their best to make you feel that it is your second home. In addition, the layout of the restaurant and garden encourage chatting, and you find yourself making friends with some very interesting people. Breakfast is free and the buffet spread is one of the most elaborate I have seen. Other meals are cooked by Mrs. Sabah, who provides delicious traditional Turkish cooking, learned from her mother. The rooms are clean and bright, and they offer good value for money. The three brothers speak English and will do anything they can to help you. The place is located in the Old City, so it is picturesque and quiet, near to a beautiful park and the sea coast, but still close to downtown and many major sights. I can hardly wait to get back.

A real find!

We just arrived back to the United States and we wanted everyone to know what a wonderful time we had at the Sabah Pansyion. The courtyard setting was perfect for making friends and we never felt we wanted to rush out in the morning to sightsee. It was so pleasant to just sit over a cup of tea (while eating the wonderful breakfast with the best tomatoes we have ever tasted) and talk to the interesting people who stay at this place. The room was perfect and beautifully air conditioned. The Sabah mom is an excellent cook and all the food was prepared perfectly. Also, when I needed a safety pin, she was right there coming to my rescue. The advice given to us by Sadat about the restaurant "7 Mehmet" was "right on." We ate there on his recommendation and we were not disappointed. The pension can also recommend several tours. We took the yacht cruise and it was great! We will recommend Sabah Pansyion to all our friends in the U.S.

We book with Sabah Pension for three nights, but, after being there for three days, we weren't ready to leave. and so, my husband and I have just completed a twelve-night stay there. The weather was amazing and the city is incredible, there are ruins all around, right by Sabah Pension, not to mention the beautiful park and sea that are just withing walking distance. Mrs. Sabah would, on a daily basis, bring tea and some Turkish pastry or cake at no cost to the customer. The staff are wonderful. they speak English very well, they helped us book tours and we did not feel they were overcharging us in comparison to other prices around town that we had gotten. The staff also seemed very well informed about transportation and they were doing the best they could to make their customers satisfied and happy during their vacations. The rooms were simple yet clean with an abundance of hot water and, the best part for us, we could connect to the internet from our room with our laptop since the pension has wireless internet services. We were picked up from the airport on time, our room was ready upon arrival and we had no difficulty in that area at all. The breakfasts were great and fresh, the dinners or lunches were amazing, Mrs. Sabah makes everything from scratch and it was the best traditional Turkish food we had tasted. We will be back soon. We highly recommend Sabah Pension to everybody.

We have been staying at the Sabah for at least seven years. The staff are the most friendly people we have never met.

This place is a nice place to stay. Picturesque, in the old quarter, and steps away from magnificent sea views and eating establishments. However, I found the staff ruder than necessary and after five years backpacking, such a comment doesn't come lightly.

This place is very friendly. I got to meet loads of people, and had a great time. Security was very good, and the staff were great - very helpful. All in all, I had a great time.

There is an international airport located in Antalya as well as many bus stations, making it easy to travel to other cities around Turkey.
For our guests coming to Antalya by plane, we have a transfer service from the airport to our pansiyon in return for some cost. For more information about the transfer, please contact us directly and give us your flight details.
From the bus station (in Turkish Otogar), take bus number 93 (it's a public bus, that has written on it Terminal Otobusu-93). You can get off after Mc Donald's (before Starbuck's) at bus stop number 587. If you miss this stop, get off at the next bus stop number 742 by the football stadium. Enter from Hadrian's Gate (if you got off the bus by the stadium, walk back towards Hadrian's gate) and walk into the Old City as far as Hesapci, Street which is about 400 metres straight ahead from Hadrian's Gate down towards the sea. On the way, you will pass The Broken Minaret (in Turkish Kesik Minare), Sabah Pansiyon is just 100 metres after that. If you cannot find your way to our pansiyon, just call us and we will help you.

Beginning the 26th of December, 2009, a new tramline can bring you from the bus station to the city center. It is located directly across the bus station. Tickets CANNOT be purchased on the tram, they must be purchased at little markets near the tram. A one way ticket costs 1.25 Turkish Lira.

To get to the old city, you must get off at the exit nearest to the clock tower (this stop called Ismet Pasa/Inonu Street). You will know you are nearing your exit when the tram passes a PTT(post office), comes across a second tramline and you see many doner kebap restaurants. From there, walk south (away from the clock tower) towards hadrians gate. Walk into the Old City as far as Hesapci Street which is about 400 metres straight ahead from Hadrian's Gate down towards the sea. On the way, you will pass The Broken Minaret (in Turkish Kesik Minare) and Sabah Pansiyon is just 100 metres after that.
