Casa Amarela Guesthouse Reviews

we stayed for about a week, the location was great, the pool was more like a cold bath. and the owners walked into your room if there was a problem with something, without announcement, acting like the room was theirs when in fact it was ours.

We stayed with Casa Amarela last summer (Sept. 2005). We originally were only going to stay in Lagos for four days. At this point we have been backpacking for two months and were getting sick of hostels, and crappy hostels. We were very impressed with the room we got. It was luck of the draw really as you can stay in any apartment around town. But we got the one with the pool, backyard, and bbq. From other people we met all the accommodations are great. Based on the service, location (near to everything in Lagos) quality of the room and the service (family owned and run, very nice people, and chatty too) we decied to stay eight days in total. Lagos was the perfect place to relax and get away from the big cities. We actually thought of renting the room for couple of months and trying to work and stay in Lagos but maybe next time. But that's how great the place is. Plus the food and booze is cheap (in the stores). The water is really cold, even in the summer. Great place, we'll be back there again.

I loved the Casa Amarela. We paid only 15 Euros for a beautiful room with en-suite bathroom and shower. The kitchen was clean and well-equipped, and a great place to meet people from all over the world. The house we stayed in was incredibly clean and the maid came in to clean and change the sheets and towels every morning! It was really more like a hotel than a hostel. The manager, Elena, is super-sweet and eternally helpful -- she was like a second mother to us. I highly recommend the Casa Amarela -- it is by far the best hostel I have ever stayed in, and I have seen a lot of them!

I backpacked Europe for one month and Casa Amarela was the greatest place I stayed. It's more like a hotel than a hostel and you get your own room and bathroom. You have full access to a kitchen and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Stay here! We were originally planning on staying two nights and ended up staying six, not only because Lagos is amazing, but because our living arrangements were great.

Good Points: More like a B&B--the rooms are so charming. Breakfast is very good, there's cheap laundry service, and the bathrooms are spotless.

Bad Points: It's a little out of the way from town and the beach, it's hard to meet fellow backpackers, kitchen is sub-par, and they accept cash only.

Summary: I would definitely stay there again, as it's worth every penny. On a side note: try not to walk around Lagos with a pack on, as you will be accosted left and right by people asking if you need a room--pain in the butt. Plus, the ocean is FREEZING even in the summertime!

Casa Amarela Guesthouse Reviews from the Web

Liked: The location was amazing. The host was super nice and byond helpful. The apartment was cozy and and welcoming Didn't like: Stove did not work, dishes were somewhat dirty. everything else perfect

Liked: The lady who runs this property does an excellent job of making you feel at home and comfortable. The location of private rooms is at a different location. It's a little farther up the hill but still close to the main area Lagos. Didn't like: Could use some more updating. Also, a ceiling fan for the hallway bathroom would be nice. For both the user and other guests.

Excellent, safe location (city center!), super friendly + helpful staff :), beautiful + clean rooms. We are absolutely satisfied and will definitely come back there whenever we are in Lagos :-)!

Liked: It was clean, had a fully equipped kitchen.Had a great backyard with a big table and chairs. Also a small pool and sun chairs. Was close to everything without having to hear any noise from people partying. When we arrived it wasnt actually where we were staying Didn't like: The staff didnt speak much english which wasnt a problem, but they were unable to provide any help when needed. The staff were around too much during the day. They were in the common areas for the majority of the day and were quite loud. When we arrived there was no one there to assist us. or let us in. Despite we had already told them when we were to arrive. We had to find a pay phone to call.

Liked: good location, freindly housekeeper great hospitality, nice rooms....etc. Cleaning every day ! Good informations about the surroundings and trips around the town. Didn't like: nothing

SUPER nice place, close to bars and cafes. Staff was really nice, they recommended great places to eat in and see, so you could get the best out of Portugal.

Very nice place with own kitchen and bathroom. A little hard to reach the staff during officehours for help with transport, but we found a way to get to the airport anyway. Otherwise a perfect stay.

We have a small family business that provides lodging (Like a Hotel) with friendly, secure and safe surroundings, which allows us to offer an excellent price to our Guests. We are sure you will love to stay with us and will admire the quality of our accommodations.

In this Hostel/Guesthouse you can have both: the calm and stress free environment with a laid back atmosphere, with common areas where you can mingle with other Guests if you choose to.

We offer 3 different style houses, all located in Lagos City centre and are designed to suit your needs. Or main house has a small swimming pool and lovely terrace, and all of the houses have an outdoor area with BBQ, table and chairs.

In this difficult times our Guesthouse wants to be different and strives to provide the best quality rooms to our Guests at an affordable price, and differentiate from other Hostel/Guesthouse by offering bunk-bed free rooms, since we only use single and double beds, private bathroom facilities in all rooms, cable TV, kitchen facilities (full equipped), and above all daily cleaning.

Laundry service is available at a low price, 6 euros per load, and some of our rooms have Air Conditioning. One thing is guarantee, here you will have a place to relax (balcony/ terrace/patio) and to enjoy Lagos exceptional weather, even in the winter time.

Late nights at the garden or terrace are just the best to unwind or to hang-out, and during the day it's always good to read a book outside in the sun with a cold breeze . The beach is also just a few minutes away and everything is in walking distance and not more than 5 minutes away (timed it ourselves). In

Meet us at our office, where we also have wi-fi acess for guests, and we will provide full information about the city, the best places to go, what to buy, where to go out, what and where to eat; we will tell you the best beaches and night/day activities.
See you on your arrival :)

Location and Contact

• From the Train Station:After living the train station walk straight ahead to the Marina, there you'll see a pedestrian bridge that you have to cross. After crossing the bridge turn to the left and follow the river side (Boardwalk) for about 6 minutes. You'll see on your right, on the other side of the road, a taxi Stop and a Carrousel (just 1 minute after Repsol Gas Station) cross the street at this point and enter the city centre. You'll reach the Praca Gil Eanes, the main town square with a big statue of our king (looks like an astronaut). Walk through here turn right and onto a smaller square, Praca L. De Camoes with a cross Statue and a big green building on the corner with a shop called 'Obrigado'. Rua Infante de Sagres runs off this square, just ring the number 8 - third floor or our office number 4.
• From the Bus station:After getting of the Bus you will see the Main road/avenue (with the river on the other side), right in front of you. On the main road turn to the right and follow the building line until you reach the taxi stop near the Carrousel, and can enter the city. You'll reach the Praca Gil Eanes, the main town square with a big statue of our king (looks like an astronaut). Walk through here turn right and onto a smaller square, Praca L. De Camoes, with a cross statue and a big green building on the corner. Rua Infante de Sagres runs off this square, just ring the number 8 - third floor or our office number 4.
• By car:It's very hard to get around with the car on the city centre, so we always advise everyone to park on the Main road (mentioned above) after the Repsol Gas Station on your right, on either side of the road. You can always walk to our office and get directions there or one of our employees will accompany you with your car, so you can park in the city centre.

Address: Rua Infante Sagres 4 (office) or nº 8 (house), Lagos, Algarve, Portugal
