A fun Pleasure
We had 3 different kinds of rooms during our 5 days stay, from the best ones (big, front view over Ganga river) to more modest ones, each of them was an experience of its own. Rooms are simple but colorful and fun, simple and practical. Not all rooms are in the same shape, some were refreshed recently and offer standards closer to what western travelers would expect, some are a bit worn out but who cares? this is Varanasi after all. And then there is the staff, kind and responsive for those working at the reception, engaging and playful (nevertheless efficient) for the ones at the restaurant. The food is good by the way, although a bit boring; this is not the star feature at Ganpati. By having tried other places around we discovered however that it was reliable and constant in quality. Be aware that unless you travel light, access to the hotel is not so easy (no road going all the way to Ganpati so you better make sure their staff can welcome you at the place where your car or rickshaw has to drop you off). They will show you the way and skillfully carry your luggage across narrow, overcrowded lanes where you would struggle and wish you never chose this destination had you to fend off just by yourself the motorcycles, cows, and dense flows of people. We loved it, we will return if/when visiting Varanasi again. Make sure you reserve well in advance.
