Etape Jeunes - CIS Reims Reviews

Nearly Criminal To Call This A Hotel Or Hostel

I needed two nights in Reims to visit Bouzy so with typically staying at hostels I choose CIS de Champagne Reims as the price was good. Check-in went smoothly enough however I got to my room with my heavy bags only to find my key card did not work. I took it back and the guy at check-in acted like there was something wrong with me until he checked the card and it had not been programmed. The room was odd as a single bed and another fold out single bed with a shower in the room but the toilet in a dorm style out in the hall. The bed was uncomfortable and clearly they have a bed bug issue as I was repeatedly scratching and itching, waking up a number of times and woke up with small welts in the morning. The next morning I went to the toilet in the hall and coming back found that I was locked out of my room requiring a visit to reception as my key had not been programmed for my 2 day stay. On my second night at CIS I asked about laundry services and was told I could do it anytime. When I got back from dinner I readied my laundry and went to the front desk and asked if I could do laundry. The man at reception abruptly asked "Are you staying here?". Having just walked down the internal hall in front of him I was a bit surprised. I said yes and he said "What room?", then "What name?". All as forcefully as he could. I told him 104 and that I just wanted to do some laundry and was this standard to question someone staying there in this way when they wanted to do laundry? It quickly became clear that this person did not know how to sell the laundry tokens so he turned it in to an attack on me. I repeatedly asked for the tokens and he said "I am not your dog". I explained to him this was unacceptable and went back to my room. After I was in my room for 10 minutes my lights went out. Only lights and not wall power. I went out in to the hall and saw under doors that many other rooms had lights on. It was clear this guy at the front desk had cut my power. I went and spoke to him and explained I was ready to call the police about this and I was more than ready to write detailed reviews online about my experience. He acquiesced and turned them back on and invited me to do laundry. I declined. The next morning i checked out and got my laundry tokens and asked if after I did laundry if I could check my bags there in the luggage room as I had checked and the train station did not have lockers. They said not a problem. A little over an hour later I returned and asked to put my bags in the luggage room and they said I could not as they had a large group come in and it was full. It was the same man and woman I had spoken to not long before. I reminded them of their earlier promise and they said they were sorry but I would have to take my bags to the train station and they checked and they had a place to store them there. I told them that is not true as I had already checked myself. Clear that they were lying I told them fine and left. I checked and sure enough no lockers or baggage storage at the train station. I walked to the nearest hotel and the woman at the desk was nice enough to let me leave my bags there for the day. Avoid this sham of a hotel/hostel at all costs. It is a despicably run business with the worst customer service I have seen and I hope whatever authority looks over this type of place takes note of the many issues there.

Etape Jeunes - CIS Reims Reviews from the Web

The hostel is very accessible and had a parking lot that could be used during our stay, this was perfect one arriving with a car.

The general facilities seemed very old and in the need of some maintenance. The room had a self-contained bathroom from a very poor quality.

Welcome to CIS de Champagne, an ‘éthic étapes’ institution and Reims’ number one youth hostel. We are located just a ten-minute walk from the town centre, cultural attractions and sports centres.

Just across the street is the main park in Reims, Parc Léo Lagrange. The train station is a 15-minute walk away and the tram stop is just 200m from the main entrance. Free parking spaces are available in the neighbouring streets and in the nearby stadium car park.

Our hostel has 200 beds in rooms ranging in size from one bed to five. We have rooms equipped with a private shower and toilet; other rooms have a private shower and communal toilets (in the corridor). We also have three rooms designed for guests with reduced mobility.

The hostel was renovated in 2009 and presents a friendly atmosphere to its guests. Free wifi is available throughout the centre and all guests have access to a small communal kitchen (utensils provided), ideal not just for cooking your own meals but also a great way of meeting other travellers.
Bed sheets and towels are provided.

The reception desk is open monday to sunday from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm by our bilingual reception team so there is always someone to answer any questions you may have.

Groups of more than ten people are invited to contact CIS directly so that we can best respond to your needs.

CIS and the environment
