distance to mestre station, hostel price, neatness are good. Not so good are wifi connection in room and there is no lift. The location is very neatr to Mestre station. It's a big added value. And it's cheaper compared to staying in venice. Venice is 10 mins away so no problems. It's a wise choice to stay here. Staff are friendly.

Had stayed here before because of location but never again. Rooms are hot and no fans. Rooms not clean. Owners cater mostly to others from India and seem to hate other nationalities and talk down to you. Worst hostel in my life and I have stayed in over 450 hostels around the world.

Ok, but not so great.
Reasonably friendly staff though a couple of them couldn't seem to find my booking on return from a wander and trying to reclaim my room key. Wifi unusable from room, had to come to lobby to use. Hairdryer didn't work, mentioned it to staff on departure so I hope something's been done. But otherwise comfortable, and good value. Shop over the road (guaranteed customers due to location) was selling mouldy fruit ... yum yum! But also some not mouldy (now why would you do that?!?!).
Hotel Giovannina Reviews from the Web
Booked a private room with a bathroom and couldn't stay there as the bathroom was extremely dirty, to the point we decided not to stay to avoid getting a disease. I understand you get what you pay for but this hostel was even below a budget level.
Clean room, comfortable beds, bathroom in disrepair with no drainage, lights next to the beds not working (just the main light), no free parking provided (and I think that the ad said that there should be). The staff speak English with hard to understand Indian or Pakistani accent. But overall it provided what we needed.
A freaking hot ever whole night. Wifi was so slow or seems like had a cut off at midnight. Very dated and toilet bowl was old and dirty. Im not going back there.
Hostel was cheap and located in a good place, very close to a bus and a train station. Unfortunately room needed renovation. There was a window broken, heeating system hadly worked. It was very cold in the room. Only one working electric socket was in a bathroom.
The room had no hot water bed uncomfortable other than location the place was a nightmare.
Hotel Giovannina Venice Meagre has the best location as far as my opinion is concerned. I can't believe it's just a short 15 minute train ride to Venice Island! For just 1.25 Euro per ride, you can't best that. I heard the bus is even cheaper. For the price of a bed in a 4 bed dorm room, I have not much complaint the bed is surprisingly comfortable. The drawback is no elevator. I wa s at the 3srd floor.
I was very happy to stay in Hotel Giovannina for my trip to Venice. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful, the room was clean and it is located close to the bus stop as well as the Mestre train station, around 5 minutes walking and 10 minutes by bus to reach Venice.

Its convenient if you don't want to stay in Venice.
Had taken a family room for 3 nights.Ensuite bath room/shower case was very small & in very bad shape. Other than this, it is good value for money, for a budget stay.
What a great deal for a hotel that accepts late night arrivals, so close to the station. And what a pleasant neighbourhood, with a well stocked supermarket only a block away. Would stay here again.
Liked: , . . . . , . Didn't like: . , . , .
Liked: I could let my stuff at the reception and it was still there, was surprised. Didn't like: Staff speaks really bad English. If you arrive at nightime, you have to walk in a dark street where drugs are sold. Public Bathrooms are very dirty and really small. You have to climb over the sink to go on toilett. The dorm was average. Nothing is clean.
I really can't say any thing bad about the place. And the guy at the reception was nice and helpful. We staid 1 night but I would come back :) thank you for the hospitality
value for money, friendly and informative staff, suitable backpackers.
Sadly gone very seedy since I used Hotel Giovannina (99 and 01) . Sink that couldn't be used; lock that required much fiddling to work; lights that didn't work; cigarette burns on many surfaces. I remember a low-priced but adequate (with tv!!) and clean Italian place for a night or two. But it's run on cheap Indian/Asian lines now: minimal investment/maximum take. A few Euro more can get you much better nearby.
Great place. Not a palace, but that's not why you book a place like this.
It's ideal, for what you want.
There is a grocery close by but don't buy anything perishable, no kitchen/fridge/utensils. The room I stayed in was alright. The shower was extremely small, had no room to bend down to get shampoo (I'm 5'4). The location was close to the train station and a 15 min bus ride to island of Venice. Only other thing was the mattress smelt horrid.
Liked: Location next to the main bus station. Didn't like: We booked a twin private room (with bathroom) and when we arrived the receptionist told us that he only could offer us a room with the shared bathroom, so we didn`t have other option but to stay in that room. The room was pretty disgusting - the sink was clogged and I fell through the bed! We complained to the receptionist and then he came to fix the bed asking us to help him :))) Besides, the whole neighbourhood is creepy - definitely, I would`t recommend it to anyone who travels alone.
This was a very pleasant stay. It was cheap and the staff was friendly.
