Koala Beach Resort Cairns Reviews

Best Hostel By FAR!!!!

After staying in several hostels I had very low expectations, but Koala Beach Resort Cairns exceeded my expectations beyond belief!! Extremely friendly staff, clean large rooms, hot showers, all rooms en-suite, great communal facilities!! BBQs and punch nights, drinking games and a lil' carnage of course!!! They really go all out and get everyone in the hostel involved which is great if you are traveling alone also a courtesy bus from the greyhound & Premier bus stop so you don't have to lug your luggage around!! Close to everything, great deals, and fabulous tours, I will definitely be staying here when I return! p.s it's really good value for only $17pn and if you stay over 3 nights its $15!!!!

A great place to stay

really nice rooms, nice atmosphere over all, you can make a lot of friends if you want to but you have enough privacy in terms of room size that you can also do your own thing -- the staff were really helpful, only down is that it gets loud at night so if your trying to sleep and you're a light sleeper it can be tough, overall I'd stay here again.

The rooms are nice, but the service, policies, and people are absolutely HORRID. What they fail to mention is they run the music at the bar at harsh levels well into the night and sleep is impossible. They charge for every little thing including sheets and towels and the front desk people are rude. When I told them I just couldn't take the noise and lack of sleep anymore, they wanted to keep money for future nights I wouldn't stay there. THE KOALA BITES BIG TIME!!!

Examples of the deposits: Sheets $20, with a $3 cleaning fee. If you take them back to get fresh ones, they charge you another $3. Pots and pans $20.00 (but get in early as they don't have that many to spare). Cooking box with cups, etc. $10. The staff at the desk are very, very rude. They will also charge you if you want them to take you to the airport. That's another $5 but it's not refunded and it doesn't run on time. I almost missed my flight. I was going to stay in Koala Hervey Bay but I have now cancelled.

My girlfriend and I had booked three nights accommodation through a travel agency and paid in advance. We paid 60 dollars a night. We planned on arriving after reception hours, which we had informed the hostel about twice, the latest time being the day before our arrival. We were told to call them when we showed up and someone would come and let us in. Nobody answered on any of the three different numbers provided. We had to find another accommodation for the first night, which wasn't easy at 12:30 a.m. When we asked for a refund for the first night they just told us to wait until they had talked to the manager. The third or the fourth time a guy called the manager in our presence. The manager only gave us a $45 refund and told us that the booking organization gets 15. Who cares? They should give us at least 60 and something extra for the trouble caused. Except for the extremely bad management of the hostel and the lack of staff initiative, the place was all right. But that hardly compensated us for what happened.

This hostel was excellent. The standard of hostels in Australia is high anyway but this was brilliant. It was no nice to have an en suite bathroom and kitchenette. That completely made my stay, and I went on to stay at Koala's in Hervey Bay. After three months of being back in the UK, I'm dying to go back!

I stayed here in July and it was good. Natalie and Rebecca were very helpful to me. I come back now and it is terrible. Rebecca is still there but that's all. Other staff people are rude and have nothing nice to say about anyone. They all complain about the manager who does nothing, and when I ask to speak to him he is not there. My room was very dirty. The kitchen is bad and they never clean it. I will not stay here again.

This place is massively overpriced for what it offers, and you pay a fortune in deposits. When we moved in they hadn't even cleaned the room from the previous people living in it. There's a kitchen in every dorm but we were not even offered crockery. The shower is good and the TV is cool, but that's it. Reception was unhelpful and rude. I couldn't wait to leave, to be honest.

Liked: Nothing. Didn't like: Dirty, our liners smelled like they havent been washed before, no kitchen equipment, dirty pool - its better to spend some more money for a good accomdation than taking this one!

Liked: Nothing Didn't like: Bad service, People the stole my stuf.

Liked: Really good hostel!! Close to the lagoon!! Didn't like: We didnt have a fridge

Liked: The 5 bed dorm is pretty cheap and you have your own shower, toilet and a table to do your dishwash! The 7 dollar meal deals @ P.jm are great! Staff are friendley:) Didn't like: The wifi signal was not that strong..

Liked: I liked the lay out of the dorms felt very open Didn't like: WALKING INTO THE COMMUNAL AREA AND SEEING WHAT LOOKED LIKE A USED CONDOM ON THE PUB BENCH

Liked: Location. Friendly staff Didn't like: Dirty bathroomNo security in dorm. There was locked door to room but no lockers or anywhere to lock up valuables.Things went missing from fridge

The reception is just amazing. They offered us the cheapest travel options and tours. They did their best to help us in terms of travel and other things :) thanks Lauren!

Liked: Good atmposhere and location Didn't like: I booked a female dorm and got a mixed one (the reception insisting that in my room there were only girls but it was not the case), the bathroom was really dirty, no sheets. The kitchen opens very late, at 8 (all tours leave around 7, you can even not have breakfast). The kitchen has NOTHING (even not a boiler for tea/coffee), insects are everywhere.

Liked: Nothing Didn't like: It was run down, bad smells, unclean and the communal area stunk.

Liked: Reception staff were great. They accommodated for my last min booking and late arrival. As well as a kitchen, there was a kitchenette within the room! Didn't like: I booked a 6 bed all girls dorm, another couple booked a 4 bed dorm and we all ended up in an 8 bed mixed dorm paying different prices...

The rooms were amazing! I love that you have a living room, fridge and small kitchen in each room!!! Its a large hostel, but a great vibe, and great group of people.

Customer review

A very busy hostel but all the staff were really helpful

Great central location near to the CPD.

Simon Hill

Really clean place with a brilliant location just seconds from the city centre, esplanade etc. Fridge and aircon in room and ensuite. Internet wasn't working when we were there. Very loud at night from the bar, but quietens down around 12 when everyone heads out. The best thing was the manager at reception Ben, who was more than helpful and really sound. Even to the extent of giving us a lift to the bus station! Completely sorted our whole trip to Cape Trib and Atherton out for us & the reef too. We came back here again!

Deirdre Whelan

Stayed in a private room which was nice, like a little apartment flat. TV, good bathroom, air con and comfy beds. Didn't get to see the dorms, a large hostel, there alot better.

Customer review

big double room with bath and toilett inside, the kitchen!!

NIcole Dietz

Nice spacious private room with kitchen facilities and ensuite. Staff were helpful and friendly when you ask the questions but initially missed a few things during checkin eg how to get in after a certain time they close the gates (but there are side doors).

Customer review
