Not Bad
We stayed at Suncamp DR. It was nice to be out of the city after a week with a rooster crowing every morning for three hours before the sun came up! We got a three-bedroom apartment for the price of a two bedroom. It was a great size for a family with kids. We have four kids at home and it would be perfect for our entire family! Three spacious rooms, each with a fan. There is a ceiling fan in the living room area. The kitchen is good. There is a fridge, stove and all the pots, pans and dishes that you would need. The bathroom is small. A small shower and a toilet and not much more. The whole camp is enclosed with a gate and the gate is locked at night (she gives you a key). Which I liked. You are right by the river and there are stairs going down to the river so you can swim. There is a small pool down by the river but it is not maintained and I would not swim in it. The lady that runs the place is very friendly and easy to get along with. To get into Puerto Plata, you have to walk two minutes up the road and take a public car for $25 pesos per person. It was actually very fun for us to do this. The public car takes you to Central Park in Puerto Plata. From there you are walking distance to the beach, around great shopping and many other things. If you want to go any place else, you can by taking a taxi! We really liked this taxi. I had to some cleaning of the apartment before I felt good about sleeping there but overall it was great. You do have to remember that you are out in the country. However this hostel had more amenities than the studio apartment we rented right in the city for the same price as a three-bedroom out in the country. Suncamp DR offers Wi-Fi internet, they have a laundry service for 20 pesos per pound of laundry, there is a small store here that is very cheap (you can get enough to get you by until you can get to the super market in Puerto Plata).
SunCamp is the perfect place to stay to relax, meet people and also learn about the local communities. Accomodation is basic, but its all you need to enjoy yourself!
Liked: Really a cool experience. Diane and the family are really making a difference. In Suncamp DR you'll be surrounded by wonderful people and it's located beautifully in a very hospitable village of Munoz. If you're seeking for REAL Dominican Rep experience, stay with these guys. It was the highlight of my trip indeed! Didn't like: nothing
