A Missed Opportunity
Such great potential here, but the atmosphere is sterile and the feeling I got was that this was just an assembly line of travelers being shipped off on their respective tours. Everything is in place to create a special vibe. There is even a small swimming pool in the garden. Approaching the building, my feeling was of arriving at a hospital or govt. offices. An austere building. I was met by very efficient and business-like reception staff, including the manager and found the prices very high for what was on offer. The guesthouse is on the edge of Kampala, so away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but still within a 45 minute minibus ride. There is a large garden area for the campers, but my room was bare and basic and I got cold water only in the communal showers the 3 days I was there. It's a good place to meet other travelers and volunteers, but no-one seemed to stay very long. A day or two before they were shipped out on tour. The food in the restaurant was very good and the staff on the whole were very friendly. The wifi was pretty awful and for the high price, I felt there was nothing extra on offer at Red Chilli to justify it. On my next visit to Kampala, I stayed in in the centre for half the price for a clean single room with hot water showers and good wifi.

Fantastic!
The staff is friendly and helpful; the atmosphere wonderful; rooms are clean; pool is nice; the monkeys, dogs, and goats are cute; the site is beautiful. I simply love it and can highly recommend it to anyone!

I visited the Red Chilli in January 2005 and was very impressed with their facilities and friendliness. They offer a great budget tour to Murchison Falls National Park and give all guests free Internet access!
