Hotel Colinas Residncia Reviews

I was at this place in December and the service was really bad. If you care about service, don't stay at this place.

I have to say that a service like what you find here you would have to look a long time to find. Because it was really BAD! When I came to the reception and wanted to sign in I had to wait for 2.5 hours before it was my turn. And it didn't look like the staff (not service minded at all) cared at all. And the room I stayed in, a twin hostel room without a bathroom, was really bad. I have been in several other places in Rio de Janeiro and at all the other places you find much better standard for just a little more money. So I think this is a really bad place to stay, with bad service and you can get MUCH better if you only pay 10-20 percent more on another hotel.

I recently had a very bad experience at this hotel. We had to wait for over two hours just to check in. When we finally got the room it was not like we were promised but much smaller, hardly big enough to fit a bunk bed and nothing else. The receptionist was not very helpful and in the end we just had to change hotels. Yes, Colina might be cheap but there are definitely much better options, even at the same price, in terms of standard and location. We were here for the New Year's Day and for this very small room without any amenities (shared bathroom of dubious standard) we were supposed to pay 90 dollars a night. We ended up living at a very nice three-star hotel instead in a much better location for about the same price. So take my advice try to find somewhere better. The Copacabana/Ipanema area has a lot of options so there should be no reason to stay at Colinas Residencia.

I had such a wonderful time last year! The staff really went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Brazil's hospitality is so unique!

NEVER EVER STAY HERE! I didn't like anything about this place. I booked a 6 person room for 6 people and when we got there, they seperated us and told us we had to specifically request for all 6 people to be in a room. Then they told us we could stay all together but no ensuite bathroom (which we had paid for), they sent us to this room where the ceilings were about 18 feet high, the bunks were 3 bunks high went to about 12 feet with only a ceiling fan and the bunks crossed each other so there was only enough floor space for MAYBE one pack, that's how small the room was. The staff at reception can't do a think for you, they have to call a manager about everything, which they then *talk* to them for about an hour which I wonder whether they are actually talking to you or wearing you down by making you wait. I have been all over the world hostelling and I had travelled for 5 weeks through South America on this trip and never ever have I stayed in a place like this. It was horrible, never ever stay!

200 EUROS STOLEN FROM THE SAFE DEPOSIT BOX Since refused to publish my previous review since it contained a direct indication of who stole our money, I needed to review it. But, you will be still able to identify who did it.This hostel, which is advertised under different names Colinas residencia, Colinas de Copacabana, Colinas redidencia, etc. is located in Rua Saint Roman 338, Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, was the worst experience we have ever had! Do not book this hostel 'cause your holiday can easily become a nightmare! Our money was stolen from the safe deposit box, and nobody including the hotel manager did nothing to help us. The rudest people we ever met!!!!!!My friend and I stayed in this hotel from Nov 12 to Nov 20, 2009, in a private double room, which means we did not share the room with anyone. Having arrived at the hostel, we also rented the safe deposit box in our room in order to keep money in it 'cause we heard that Rio was not very safe. Renting the safe deposit box was not included in the price, but we needed to pay extra. But, when we tried to open the safe deposit box, it turned out that the lock was broken. We reported it to the receptionist, who sent a handyman to repair it. He fixed it and we put our money, passports and other documents inside. The next day, before leaving for the center of Rio, I opened the safe deposit box, counted all the money, locked the safe deposit box again and put the key in the pocket of my shorts. All the money was there. My friend was there with me, but he did not have access to the safe deposit box, 'cause the key was with me all the time. Also we closed the windows before leaving the room. When we came back to the hostel, I counted the money again, but 200 euros were missing!!!! 150 from my and 50 from his wallet. It was not a burglary because the room door as well as the door of the safe deposit box were intact (no traces of forcible and violent entry). Only somebody who had the access to the keys could get into our room, open the safe deposit box and steale our money. Now you can immagine who did it! Not me, not my friend, not anybody from outside, butguess who, 'cause I am not allowed to say. I ran downsatirs to the reception desk, but the hotel staff including the manager who was there did not seem to care. The female receptionist just asked me if I wanted her to call the police. When the police arrived, they took me to the police station where I gave the satement and reported the theft. When I came back to the hostel, I told the receptionist I would like to speak to the manager. He came from his office and I asked him what he did to protect us, his guests. I asked him if he talked with the handyman who repaired the safe deposit box the day before or the room maid. He behaved in the most disgusting manner and turned his deaf ear to all that I said. The rest of the time we spent in this hotel, nobody (except for the two male receptionist who were kind all the time) demonstrated any concern or compassion for what happened to us. The manager behaved as we had not been there. And, also the day when we got robbed, I met the handyman in the corridor. The moment he passed by me, he started whistling some tune in a very provocative manner. It was so frustrating, but I was not able to do anything. On top of everything, the day we checked out the female recptionist (extremely rude) tried to charge us the cost of renting the safe deposit box, even though I returned the key the very day we were robbed. I visited the police station one more time before we left, and deputy station commander told us that they would do everything they could. I know I won't see my money again, but I feel I need to warn other people of happened to me in this hotel.

Extensive breakfast. But this is honestly the only good thing about this hostel. I was in a room with 3 bunks which were so close together you were practically on top of the person next to you. The bathroom was not cleaned for 4 days and the toilet leaked into the dorm wetting all our bags and belongings and although we told the reception, they did nothing about it, saying nothing was wrong.

The location was good as was the atmosphere, but that was made by the people that stayed there.
