Rubbish Place -- Not so friendly staff
Stairs for bunk beds were broken, Kitchen was extremely filthy. Staff wasn't very friendly when the defects were identified to them. There is absolutely no signage, so it is very hard to find the actual location of the place.
Noisy noisy noisy
It was clear that the rooms are build on top of a pub. So we expected it to be a little noisy. But it wasnt just a pub noise. It was more like a dance club! Every time when someone walks out of it the noise got even louder. Around 3am the music turned off. But even though. That didnt mean the people would leave. if you have earplugs and a good sleep or just want to party all night and morning. This is the one. Otherwise you have to sleep at day time. There is a car park on the other side of the street which just cost you 12$. That was quit handy for the city. 24hours. Free breakfast and coffee? Musli without milk and coffee with water from the hot tap. Enjoy everyone.
AWESOME HOSTEL!!!

Internet and washing machine are free. free brekkie.

will be back one day!
Tatts International Backpackers, or Tatt's, is located above Tatersalls International pub in a superb central location. Entry to the hostel is through the stairs inside the pub though these are usually locked away from public access when the pub is open, otherwise a set of keys is needed to get in via the fire escape/kitchen route round the back of the pub. The pub itself is usually quiet and caters mostly for folks playing pokies.
The hostel is clean and although the facilities are quite old they work well enough. The kitchen is large and has a large table, fridges, gas/electric tops and oven, toaster, kettle, etc. The free breakfast consists of some bread and jams which were all mouldy, but there is free tea and coffee for the caffeine addicts, and free milk in the fridge. The communal room is even bigger and is well equipped for nights in with heaps of books, games, old magazines, pool table, and a big TV with video player. A large range of up to date videos can be loaned for a refundable deposit from within the hostel. These communal areas are good places to meet people for arranging trips to more lively places as the hostel itself is quiet and chilled.
During winter the hostel is quite empty and those people there tend to be long termers, though they are friendly enough. It is cold in the rooms as no heaters are allowed due to fire risks, but in summer air con is available. The bathrooms are old but clean and there is always a good supply of hot water.
The owner of the hostel is more than accommodating and really went out of her way to help get good deals and provide a wide range of ideas and info. She can also provide lifts from the railway station.
Fantastic. Great place to make friends. Free cake in the evenings, free tea and coffee and free breakfast. A very clean and friendly family-run environment. Located on the main street, everything is easy to get to. Although there's a bar downstairs, there is virtually no noise.
