This hostel was a nightmare. In general, we felt so unwelcome, were made to pay for the room the minute we got there, and we were given a ditry look every time we left or returned (and keep in mind we were never home later than 10 p.m. and whispered when we arrived). It advertised free internet, which we needed, yet once we got there and tried to use the computer for things such as booking future trips in Europe or contacting family at home, the troll that resides there as a manager informed us there was a twenty-minute a day limit. Yet he would be chatting online or doing who knows what for hours on end, no exaggeration. I would advise anyone thinking of staying there to look elsewhere. Also, there is a gas station right outside and all we heard all night were the toots and squeals of motorbikes going by.
This is also called Victoria Hostel. Anyone who is thinking of going there: DO NOT STAY THERE!!! It is horrible. The woman who works there is extremely rude, especially if you're female. There was a guy who kept staring at me and the only other girl in the room then was jacking off under the covers while the otehr girl and I were talking. I slept on the top bunk because I was afraid if I slept on the bottom I'd be raped. It was the first time on my trip I was afraid for my physical safety. They also made me pay for two nights when I only wanted to pay one, but allowed some one else to pay for one. I left after one night and lost my money but I don't care because I had to get out of there.
Liked: Excellent location, staff seemed to want to be able to help. Breakfast was included (not anything special but just meant food was available first thing in the morning) Didn't like: Lack of clarity about the reception desk being 24h and extra fee not explained up front, struggle speaking to the staff in English at times, had to check the costs had been worked out right as they tried to double-tax us for the Rome city fee.
i was suprised when i entered the hostel. a very warm welcome. friendly hosts and guests. everything is as fine as it can get ;)
Liked: Was in a decent location-not far from the Coliseum and Lateran and near Metro stops. However, the place with the dorms is not actually at the address listed, it is a couple blocks away. Place had nice air conditioning and a kitchen available for use-bring a lighter or matches though if you want to use the stove. Didn't like: One of the beds in the room was like laying on a rock with spikes in it. The others were normal. I laid first on the awful bed before moving-however, the poor soul that showed up last got stuck there. Don't choose the biggest bed in the 6 person.
Liked: Close to the train station Didn't like: Dishonest listing, rude employees.
Liked: Close to Colesium. Kitchen was available. Breakfast was not terrible. Didn't like: Everything else. No common space, really.
Liked: Rooms were clean and tidy. Air conditioning worked really well and so did the wifi. Didn't like: There seemed to be some confusion over the address, I ended up staying at the pace down the road 130 instead of 191. So I went to the 191 address and no one was there. So it would have been nice to receive an email when I booked about the actual street address. Instead of getting all worried and wondering what I was going to do for the night. Someone eventually turned up and helped me out. I was not impressed by their commutation skills.
Liked: Clean, friendly and comfortable. Didn't like: Nothing indeed.
The room was very clean and tidy. Promised breakfast was served between 8- 10 am and included hot and cold drinks. Tha apartment had his own looked doors, the whole place was very safe and secured far away from termini which is very good (termini is awfull and staying in the close area to it might absolutely ruin the stay). Only 10 meters away from the place You can find a comsy cafe with gentle owner that greets You at the entrance, and the stuff serves You a remarkable espresso doppio. The apratment is based on 2nd floor and besides staris You can take the lift. Air conditioning, heating, two shared bathrooms, a kitchen anex and nice furniture inside- advantages comparing to other hostels!
Liked: The warmth of the facilities, the breakfast (was better than the other hostels we stayed) Didn't like: The kitchen was very small
Liked: really clean, veryfriendly staff. drinks in the fridge all time available for less money. Computer to use for free. Wonderful atmosphere in this old but renovated house and flat and a balcony. supermarket around the corner and just 5 minutes walking to the historical center. recommondable, definity. Didn't like: there is no opportunity for cooking and it's loud, you have to close the window at least 6 in the morning, when the traffic starts to be busy.
Nice place with polite staff. Breakfast could be improved with fresh made bread instead of cheap dried toasts.
the staff are really nice and helpful. gave us a lot of useful advice about the trip in Rome. near the metro station. all equipment needed is provided.
Well located hostel, right in the centre of Rome, very friendly and helpful staff, free internet access. Room and breakfast simple, but good for that price. Bathroom smelled bad.
It was a really nice stay at Conte House, Fabio was really helpful and I really recommend this Hostel!!!
the hostel has a really nice staff! very helpful and friendly!
from my point of view: i would prefer that they use not plastic-dishes for the breakfast, but appearantly that is normal for italy =/
and WATCH THE CHECK-IN time! i came too early and nobody was there..
the internet works perfektly and you can use it whenever you want to! same with the fridge!
there is even a tiny balcony you can sit and have breakfast on! that is really nice!
the location is perfect as well; it is close to the statoin Roma Termini as well as the colosseum
Very nice place in a good neighbourhoud with good restaurants and public transport. Colosseum at walking distance. we did not stay home for the 'italian'. Hop on the street and get a coffee and something to eat in the bars (the italian way).
Conte house was a very positive surprise: the location is very good (we never needed to take any kind of public transportation; very good place to eat nearby - la Cuccuma or smth); the room was clean with towels, soap and shampoo, cleaning was done every day w/o exception; Fabio (the owner) was nice and friendly, the breakfast was simple but good (much better than expected). Fun: we were not looking for fun at the B&B-just a place to sleep, so no problem. Atmosphere: Only some loud guests of the B&B might be a problem in the night. In short: I would recommend it!
Great location and price.
nice room. Breakfast was fine, but italian (coffee, tea and milk & prepacked crossaints). wifi Internet did not always work, but there is a computer on which you can use internet for free.
Hostel is OK. My recommendation for everybody who search good place for reasonable money.
