Goreme is the best place I have ever been in my life. The nature, landscaping, and the people are great.
The new Göreme tour is very nice and good company.
Göreme is a stunning place, and no matter in which direction you walk, you will encounter great sights. You can easily walk to the Open Air Museum and take local buses to the main underground cities. You will be pressured into booking a tour in Istanbul over and over, and then again when you arrive in Cappadoccia. It is not necessary at all to book a tour, unless you really are in a rush and want to be driven around or unless you want to see gimmicky things such as pottery-making demonstrations.
Goreme is a nice place, very laid back. I enjoyed most the walk through the Red Rose VAlley. the valley itself is great and you'll end up at the "Flintstone café", run by a friendly guy. the vies from there are marvellous. there is a church nearby which to my opinion tops the ones in the open air museum in Goreme: have a look. Keep on walking to the sunset point for more great hiking, the sunset pint is rather so so but it is easy to go back to Goreme on the road from there.
Göreme is a spectacular and other worldly village in Turkey's amazing Cappadocia region in the centre of the country famous for its spectacular and unique rock formations and ancient cave churches. Cappadocia and Göreme contain some of the most stunning scenery in all of Turkey and are definite must-see destinations for anyone visiting this beautiful country.
Set in a valley surrounded by pink hills and lush greenery, Göreme is full of amazing rock formations dubbed "fairy chimneys" that were formed by volcanic ash and centuries of erosion that sculpted the ash into bizarre cone shapes, some with lumps of ash rocks teetering on top of them like a hat.
Göreme has plenty of accommodation options, even though it's only a small town. Göreme hostels are all within walking distance of the bus and minibus station and are reasonably priced and cozy welcoming places, many of which are actually in the fairy chimneys themselves! Hostels in Göreme vary in price depending on accommodation type with dorm rooms offered cheaply and private rooms in hostels and hotels for every budget.
Göreme is truly beautiful and unique place and a great place to base yourself to explore the entire Cappadocia region either by foot on one of the many great local hikes, by minibus to the neighbouring villages -- or if time and your budget allow, take a hot air balloon for an absolutely unforgettable experience! Although small, Göreme is a very popular tourist destination so has a great selection of restaurants and is very well connected to the rest of the country by bus and minibus services.
Do not skip Cappadocia and Göreme, it's guaranteed to be a highlight of any trip to Turkey!
