Khorogh, Tajikistan, is one of the two cities on the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan. Do not expect too much from the term "city," though; Khorogh will feel like a town. Every traveller on the Pamir Highway will stop here for one or a few days.
Your options for a hostel in Khorogh, Tajikistan will be extremely limited. What does exist will offer private rooms, dorm rooms, and camping. There are several homestays both in Khorogh as well as throughout Tajikistan. At some homestays you will share the room with other travelers, while at others you will get a private room. Some homestays and hostels in Khorogh, Tajikistan do have internet, but it is often slow and only working a few hours per day. The homestays do not have a regular bed, but a comfy mattress on the floor. As the name already suggests, you will stay with a local family when you book a homestay. However, you will get a lot of privacy, and staying at a homestay will give you the most authentic experience. Those who travel around Tajikistan tend to be very open and thus it will be as easy to meet people as when you would stay at a Khorogh, Tajikistan hostel.
There are not many sites that you must explore when you are in Khorogh. However, it is certainly interesting to walk around and see what life is like in a city in such a remote part of the world. There is a nice market, but staying in Khorogh for a full day is enough. There are also a few good hiking trails near Khorogh. Most travelers use Khorogh as a hub from Dushanbe to travel onward on the Pamir Highway or the Wakhan Valley. Traveling the Pamir Highway is more about the landscape and experiencing life in the smaller villages than staying in the bigger cities.
