Located along the eastern side of the Strand, Gordons Bay is surrounded by the stunning aquamarine blue of the ocean in False Bay on one side and the Hottentots Holland mountain range on the other. This picturesque seaside community provides a perfect destination for travelers looking to experience everything South Africa has to offer.
While the town’s harbour is home of one of the county’s most prestigious yacht clubs, visitors primarily flock to Gordons Bay to enjoy the expansive white sand beaches. Tourists staying at a local hostel or hotel can take advantage of the variety of activities offered here, including volleyball, sailing, sunbathing, jet and water skiing, snorkeling. Or, guests can stroll up and down the beautiful beachfront promenade, stopping in at the many cafés, shops, pubs, and restaurants along the way.
Tucked into a protected cove near the old harbour is the beautiful, intimate Bikini Beach, which boasts a blue flag, and other nearby beaches include Melkbaai, Kogel Bay, and Sunset Beach. Tourists can visit them all by renting a boat, or scuba diving along the coastline. Golf is also a popular pastime in Gordons Bay, with ten different courses to choose from – all located between five and 30 minutes from the central part of town.
Accommodations here are varied, including hostels, luxury hotels, bed and breakfasts, vacation rentals, and more. A hostel located near the harbour gives guests access to many of Gordons Bay’s attractions, including the new waterfront development, Harbour Island – which features shopping, pubs, and several prime restaurants where tourists can sample some local cuisine.
Gordons Bay is easy to reach from Cape Town, just down the N2 highway to the east. Taxis and shuttles can be found from the airport, or guests can rent a car and drive themselves to this scenic town along the South African coast.
