Hostels in Bohinj, Slovenia

Despite not being as widely known as Bled, Lake Bohinj (located in the town of the same name) is actually the largest permanent lake in Slovenia. It is located in the Upper Carniola region, just about twenty kilometres from Lake Bled. Although not flooded with tourists like Bled, there are plenty of things to see and do in and around the lake.

You can go for a swim, take a trip with a tourist boat, or participate in one of the many different water sports. Because Bohinj is surrounded with mountains, hikers and mountain bikers will definitely enjoy in exploring numerous hiking/cycling trails. If you are into a little more unusual and exciting activities, you can also participate in horseback riding or various extreme sports. Other interesting attractions include several waterfalls in the surrounding area (Savica Waterfall is the most important and famous one), Triglav Lakes Valley, Aquapark Bohinj, and Vogel Ski Resort.

If you are staying for a couple of days and want to experience as many different things as possible, buying the Bohinj Guest Card might be a good idea. You can buy an individual or a family card and it will give you the benefits of free parking, discounts on bicycle and electric bicycle rental, special deals across the country, and discounts on some public transport rides. The best time to visit Bohinj is probably in the summer, but plenty of people travel there in the winter just because of the ski center on Vogel.

As far as the accommodation goes, Bohinj mostly offers apartments; your Bohinj hostel options are limited but what exists is pretty good, with quite inexpensive dorms and private rooms and a location right next to the lake, in the heart of Triglav National Park in Bohinj. One hostel is part of an outdoor sports agency so it holds different activities and even an adrenaline park, which is located right next door.
