Ufa is the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan; the administrative center of Ufa City Municipal District; and one of the largest industrial, cultural, sports, and scientific centers of Russia. Moreover, Ufa is the largest center of oil refining in Russia and a major transport hub. What every tourist can easily see is that Ufa is a very rich city and the oil money is heavily invested in improving the infrastructure. In fact, Ufa is one of the fastest-developing Russian cities and its population has been growing steadily for the last fifteen years.
Even in ancient times, there was a big and rich town in the place of today’s Ufa; current excavations confirm that theory. Today, Ufa is also a multi-confessional religious center with mixed Muslim and Orthodox population and the city is more conservative than other big Russian cities and it is definitely not a party place with intensive nightlife. There are plenty of religious places to visit such as the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin, the Bogorodsko-Ufa Temple, the Intercession Church, the Munira Mosque, and the Hakim Mosque. It is also a green city with many parks and plenty of monuments. However, before visiting Ufa, you should know that the city can be very cold in the winter and the temperatures can easily go to minus thirty-five degrees Celsius.
Most hostels in Ufa are located one or two tram stops from the railway station. Of course, if you do not have too much luggage, you can always walk, as the distance would take you no more than fifteen minutes. Ufa hostels have moderate prices but the city is not cheap, anyway, so finding a cheaper hostel in Ufa could be great for any backpacker. Most Ufa hostels have good conditions, so it is not hard to get a good deal in the city.
