This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Scheveningen.
Scheveningen is a beach town in the Netherlands. Even though the weather in the Netherlands does not allow you to lay on the beach most of the year, visiting Scheveningen is nice any time of the year.
Although Scheveningen is quite small, there are a few hostels from which you can choose. There is a hostel right on beach and hostels can be found inside the town. The standards of the facilities at the hostels right at the beach or normally lower, but it offers the best location if you like to do water sports. There is not much to do in the town itself other than the beach area and the harbour. This area however is very stretched out. The beach area is consists of a nice sand beach, many beach cafes and a small mall and restaurants. A theatre, cinema, casino and other places you can go for entertainment are also present.
Water sports are the obvious activity that one can do at the beach. Other than that there are often other activities organized on the beach, such as fairs, sports events. There is also a beach stadium that can seat several thousands of people at the end of the beach. In summer you can often find National championships of beach sports and frequently even international sports events. Only a few days per year the weather is good enough to lay on the beach, but when the weather is really good in the Netherlands you will find the beach over crowded with citizens from all over the Netherlands to spend some leisure time. If you arrive by car, count on traffic jams.
Scheveningen borders the city of The Hague (Den Haag in Dutch) and is technically even part of Den Haag. Scheveningen can be easily reached by tram and bus in less than half an hour from The Hague’s city centre. You might as well book a hostel in The Hague and do Scheveningen as a daytrip. There are more hostels available in The Hague. If you like to enjoy the nightlife, you can have a good time in both Scheveningen and The Hague. The Hague should definitely not be missed if you’re in the area as there are some places worth visiting and it has a nice vibe. On the other hand, if you do plan to book a hostel in The Hague, you should definitely not skip Scheveningen, even if the weather is not great.
