Atlas Mountains, Morocco, covers a region that is broken up into three parts by the locals -- the High Atlas, the Middle Atlas, and the Anti Atlas. These ranges cover quite a large area of the country, so you need to make sure when you book your Atlas Mountains, Morocco hostel that you know which town exactly it is in. There are regions of the Atlas Mountains that are quite popular for different activities. During the summer months when there is no snow, there are quite a number of beautiful hikes and villages that you can stay in in the middle of nowhere where you can experience the basics of local living including the traditional hammam.

An area that is quite popular for both hiking and rock climbing is the Todra Gorge and you can find Atlas Mountains, Morocco hostels in the small towns around this popular landmark. It is worth kicking back and enjoying the region and the serenity for a couple of days.

Closer to Marrakech and in the area of the High Atlas is the tallest mountain in Morocco and North Africa, Toubkal. You can arrange to hike this mountain of over four thousand meters on a trip with a guide if more difficult hiking is your thing.

In the winter months, it snows in this area and can get quite cold. The months of January and February is their ski season and people travel from the cities to the mountains for a weekend to get some skiing in. The easiest way to get around and properly explore the Atlas Mountains is with a car. While there are buses that run to some parts of this stunning range in Morocco, you won't get to properly explore it unless you have the freedom of being able to stop and explore as you go.
