Ohrid is a very lively city in the summer and you should visit it then, although hostels in Ohrid normally increase their prices for the summer season. A lot of Ohrid hostels are open only during the summer season, so be sure to make a booking in advance if you visit the city in the winter. All Ohrid hostels are located very close to Lake Ohrid and their prices are not very high and you can find very good accommodation. Ohrid is Macedonia’s most famous tourist destination and there are many tourists during the high season.
Lake Ohrid is very famous for its beauty and it is mandatory that you take a lake voyage. Lake Ohrid is a UNESCO Natural Heritage site and the Old City is a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site. The city is very well preserved with many old houses (some Ohrid hostels are in such houses). There are also many churches, including the Church of St. Sophia, the Church of St. Panteleimon, the Church of St. George, the Church of St. Clement, and the Church of St. Petka. You can also visit the Ancient Theatre of Ohrid, the Basilica of St. Erazmo (fourth century), and the Museum of Slavic Writing Culture.
There are many summer festivals, which are very interesting even for veteran travelers. The Balkan Festival of Folk Songs and Dances, the Ohrid Summer Festival, the Balkan Music Square Festival, the Ohrid Choir Festival, and the Ohrid Fest are a few.
