With a population of more than four thousand, it is the largest village in this municipality. Gemünd is a renowned Kneipp Resort and one of the National Park Gates.

The scenic trail is divided into four sections, each of which covers a distance of eighteen to twenty-five kilometres. The Wilderness Trail takes you through the entire conservation area, including panoramic views, dense forests, and authentic wildlife.

You can get there by car or train. The closest bigger cities are Cologne and Bonn and the nearest train station is in Kall. There are frequent train services connecting Kall with Bonn and Cologne. The ride takes around an hour and fifteen minutes. From Kall, you can take one of the regional buses to Gemünd.

The climate in the national park is moderate and mild. In summer, the mean maximum temperature is around twenty-three degrees Celsius. In winter, you can expect average maximum temperatures ranging from three to five degrees Celsius.
