Vertigo Centre

The Review

Vertigo Center is a hostel located centrally in the beautiful port city of Marseille, France. Vertigo Hostels have two locations in the city, so be sure to save the correct address for the hostel you book. This is the hostel located right next to the train station; the other hostel is located by the marina.

The Location

The hostel is located five minutes from the Gare Saint Charles train and bus station. It is very well connected to the public transportation system. The heart of the Old Town and the marina are easily accessible by walking. Nearby the hostel, there is a wide variety of dining and drinking options.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel offers travelers the choice of several dorm guest rooms that have two-, four-, and six-bed capacity. The dorm rooms have private, en suite bathrooms with a separate toilet and shower. Some dorm rooms do not have an en suite bathroom and those guests may use a communal bathroom in the hallway. The rooms are a bit cramped without much space. There are no outlets or reading lights at each individual bed. The lockers are large enough to fit most backpacks. There are not many outlets in the room. The mattresses are quite comfortable and linens are provided for free. Towels are available to rent for an extra fee.

Common Spaces

There is a pleasant environment here due to great decor; social common spaces;, and modern, clean facilities. The hostel has several common areas, including a large space on the ground floor with several couches, a kitchen, the reception desk, and an outdoor bar and patio. Guests are often seen relaxing here and using the two available computers. The reception is a desk is in the front of the room, which guests will see as they enter the property. The hostel common spaces are kept very clean. There is a secure luggage room that only the hostel staff can access by key, and guests may keep their bags here for free after checking out.

Throughout the hostel, the Wi-Fi is very strong and fast. Breakfast is not included but can be ordered for an extra cost. When we arrived, reception did not have a key for the room, so we had to have a hostel worker let us in and out of the room whenever we needed access.

This is a nice hostel, due to the location and great decor. This is definitely not a party hostel, and has a very sophisticated vibe.

The Location Vertigo hostel is in an easy to find location, not too far from the old port. Anything needed is In walking distance, near the harbour such as i good restaurants, shops and bars. Not too far from the hostel is a more local square and tons of streets to walk down. Up the hill lies the big beautiful church overlooking the city and a half an hour away bus ride is the beach, or a variety of hikes, Just a few blocks away is a tourist information building, post office, bus stops and the train stop. Rooms and Bathrooms The rooms are very spacious and offer tons of comfort. With big wooden bunkbeds, lights and personal outlets, it is quite easy to feel relaxed and have personal space. The lockers require small locks but are at least located within the rooms. Each room has a variety of beds, small table and chair, private room for the toilet and private room for the shower and sink. Leaving many options for privacy and room to change. The private bathrooms are kept tidy and clean depending on your roommates. Constant hot water was given but the pressure wasn't that great. Overall the hostel bedrooms were fantastic, other than the loud music playing from a nearby bar on the weekends. If felling the need for some air, you can always open your bedroom window. Common Spaces The hostel has two separate buildings located near one another. Each building has a good comfortable lounge with tables and chairs and computers. Lamps allow for more lighting and a warm environment. Near the common room in the second building is a washer and dryer which only takes a few coins for a big load. A small but open kitchen allows travelers to prepare personal meals or store some food in the fridge and sit at a big kitchen table. Summary This hostel was really good, clean and comfortable. Staff and fellow travelers were friendly and always willing to lend a hand. The hostel holds many travelers but it is not a big social party hostel. Breakfast wasn't major but good enough to fill your stomach, It simply included some breads and cereals. Although the hostel is in a great location, it is important to always stay aware and careful because the city can be quite dangerous .
good, clean, and suitable.
This hostel is wonderful! The staff are very friendly, the rooms are clean, and there is a charming atmosphere about the place. Also, they have a nice bar where you can have breakfast in the morning and a drink after dark. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and I will definitely go back if I ever go to Marseille again.
Friendly, clean, and perfect location.
Only nice words about this hostel. All perfect. When you go out of Gare Saint Charles you only have to go thirty meters. I think it is in a great part of the city, not dangerous or something, it is in the city center with nice location to all things you need. But be careful anyway, especially if you are going with much money with you. I was going alone after the midnight to hostel from a discotheque at Vieux Port, no problems at all.
Really nice, clean, charming, and central
The best hostel I know. My boyfriend and me booked the "hotel room" which is very nice and tastefully furnished. Better than a lot of hotels that cost way more and very friendly staff.
It is too bad that this hostel is in a slummier part of Marseille, because that is about its only drawback. The rooms are huge, the bathrooms are very clean, and the common areas are wonderful. The staff were amazing -- they gave me a map and pointed out where everything was that I wanted to see. You have to pay for internet, but it's cheap, and breakfast is extra as well. Vertigo is right by the train station, which is great when you have a heavy backpack on, but the area is pretty sketchy -- I wouldn't go out at night by myself.
All I can say is, that I really enjoyed this place. What a great hostel. Friendly, perfectly located, clean, open, a bar, beautiful area to sit outside. you don't feel beeing in a city at all, you are with friends. Will recommend this place to all going to France or even Europe, because it is an experience staying there.
Best in ten months Europe
Haven't come across that kind of good place during ten months of travels in Europe. One of the places you really find it hard to leave, and think about coming back asap. Makes Marseille worthwhile.
