Booked but never stayed!!
We booked and had 4 emails go back and forth the day before and the day of arrival, including one at 4pm the day of arrival to advise that we dont need a pickup and our flight is delayed 45 minutes. We turn up in a taxi at 9pm in the rain to be told we have sold your room -- But we did send you an email to let you know this. this is terrible service and I have heard from a friend that this hostel will take whoever comes in the door so if you are looking to book and confirm -- avoid this place!!! A reservation is not a reservation. Looked average from the front desk anyway and on a busy road. There are plenty of other options in KK.

Great place!
I was at KK Backpackers Lodge in the beginning of June 2009. This place is clean, cozy living area, free internet usage (was fast connection), nice local coffee in the morning, but most of all the owner is friendly and approachable. Located in great spot and walking distance to most of the places in the city. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for good price of accommodation in KK. I love this place and will be back again to KK Backpackers Lodge!

Stayed here for several nights in August-September 2008. Staff are very friendly. Location is great -- quick walk to anywhere in KK. Very safe and they have a twenty-four-hour concierge. Rooms are clean and A/C works great if so desired. We stayed in a private room with double bed and it was a good sized room and the bed was reasonably comfortable. (Would have preferred sheets with a little more cotton and a little less polyester though!) Bathrooms are small but clean with Western toilets and good showers. Wi-Fi is great (they also have a computer if you don't have one) and faster than any of the Internet cafes I used in KK. All in all I highly recommend this hostel.
Kinabalu Backpackers Lodge is a great place to put up your feet and relax, or organize your next big event in Sabah, Borneo. The staff are very friendly and the they are more than willing to help you with anything you need while you are here. The Location Kota Kinabalu is a fairly closely knit city so just about anywhere is a good location. The location of this place is just outside the city center but still just a five-minute walk to the center. It is just far enough away to avoid the hustle and bustle of the main center as well. There is a bar across the street serving cheap beer and occasionally has live music. Rooms and Bathrooms This is one very spic-and-span place. The floors and bathrooms are cleaned at least daily. The rooms themselves are either an eight-bed dormitory or a one bunk-bed room. There are also a number of singles and doubles available as well. There are two toilets and three showers which have hot water available. There is no security available in the form of lockers for your bags but the front desk is happy to take your valuables for the duration of your stay. Common Spaces Downstairs there is free internet access, and a couch and a few chairs sitting around the television. A small pile of DVDs are available for use. Upstairs there is a small area available to prepare food -- breakfast is served here. There is also a balcony to squeeze yourself onto. Summary This is a fairly ideal hostel with very friendly staff. The free breakfast, free internet, and the DVDs are nice commodities to have. They also have a free pick-up service from the airport. All in all it's definitely worthwhile.

it has what t takes to be a good budget lodge!
i've been a guest there from 20th till 31st december 2007. it was my first vacation in sabah borneo and a very last minute decision for lodging at KB Lodge turned out to be excellent. All my activities, the adventures, and short trips were decided and arranged over the counter. KB lodge definitely has got good people running it. Special thanks to Hody, Diana. Nizam, and Roger for being such jolly good fellows. So you guys out there, if you want good, comfy, budget lodge, KB lodge is the one. Good location, quiet, and the city is just walking distance.

I can only recommend this hostel to anybody! Rooms are clean; service is excellent; and staff very friendly, helpful, and provides you with all of the information you will need for your trips to the five islands or Mt. Kinabalu! When I was there I had a lot of fun every minute I spent in the hostel. Besides it is just a five minutes walk to the market, the sea, and most attractions in town.

family run, clean, friendly, and helpful
We were lucky to stay in Kinabalu Backpackers Lodge only a couple of weeks after they'd opened. The family that's running it was very friendly and helpful. a much better breakfast and a choice of drinks than other hostels in the area we stayed in. Good location. I'd absolutely recommend it.
