Dublin International Hostel Reviews

Conveniently located near the Dublin city centre, Dublin International Hostel (a YHA hostel) is quite charming, as inner-city hostels go. It was actually a former convent and boarding school in the Georgian era and retains some of that period's atmosphere in the creaky old corridors; drafty floors; and odd little corners, including a church with vaulted ceilings where the free continental breakfast is served. There are stained glass windows in this church and a confession box, but it's no longer consecrated as a church. The good thing about the Dublin YHA is that it's very laid-back, with staff willing to make onward bookings, provide maps, and help you enjoy your time in Dublin with plenty of activities and tours.

The Location

The hostel is a ten-minute walk from O'Connell/Spire street, one kilometer from the Old Jameson Distillery, two kilometers from the Connolly train station, and three kilometers from the Guinness Storehouse. Parking is complimentary outside, which makes it the perfect place to leave your car and set out on foot and enjoy all Dublin has to offer.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Singles and doubles/twins are available, and there are dorms of three, four, six, eight, and ten beds with shared bathrooms. One of the four-bed rooms has an en suite and families/groups may wish to book an entire room. Each floor has several shared bathrooms, which contain toilets and showers inside. These have push-button controls for water-saving means and are at a set temperature that isn't always that hot.

Common Spaces

There's a guest lounge, pool table, and a BBQ area. Most guests tend to use the reception area or the old church to sit in to talk, get online, read, or chat. In the stairwells there are also some sofas/couches.

Given this is an inner-city hostel, and guests have twenty-four-hour access with key cards, there can be quite a bit of coming and going through the night. The basic dorms sleep up to ten guests in bunk beds, so select a smaller room if sleep and privacy are important. There is free Wi-Fi, linen, and towels. Laundry facilities are also available. It's an excellent location for exploring Dublin on foot, and it doesn't take long to walk into the city centre. Staff are extremely helpful and can help you with bookings throughout the Anoige network.
