I Keu Ken Hostel is a social and popular hostel with modern facilities. The location is slightly awkward (fifteen minutes’ walk from the centre and thirty-five minutes’ walk from the bus terminal) but the cozy, friendly atmosphere makes this a great place to meet other travelers.
The Location
I Keu Ken Hostel is on a quiet road in a mostly residential area. Fifteen minutes’ walk will get you to the main road with shops, restaurants, and ATMs. There is also a supermarket one block away. To reach the hostel, there is an uphill walk, which is worth it for the lovely views over the town and lake.
Before the bus station was moved, this location would have been great. However, it is now a thirty-five-minute walk from the bus station, much of which is uphill. If you are on a budget and planning to visit Perito Moreno glacier by bus without a tour, you might prefer to choose somewhere closer to the station.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Dorms are small and a little cramped but they are kept clean and have comfy beds with fresh bedding and plenty of warm blankets. Each bed is assigned its own locker (bring your own padlock). There are separate male and female bathrooms on both floors, each containing several cubicles with showers and toilets. They are modern, clean, and well stocked with toilet paper and liquid soap. There is hot water in the showers.
Common Spaces
There is a large, open-plan common area that houses the reception desk, dining tables, and some sofas. The reception desk offers tourist information and help booking tours. There is Wi-Fi throughout, although it is a little slow and glitchy. The common areas feel bright, with lots of windows letting in natural light and views over the town and lake.
There is also a communal kitchen, which is on the small side but is kept clean and well organised. Breakfast is included, but it is disappointing -- it's just tea, coffee, and white bread with sugary spreads.
This is a sociable hostel -- on most nights there are people chatting, eating, and drinking together in the common areas.
