The word "depressing sums up Sleep Cheap Hostel quite well. Have you ever watched a movie where a character takes a rock-bottom-priced room in a rough area of the city? The landlord shows them to their room up some long creaky stairs; past the stains on the wall; then opens the door to reveal a dark, cramped room with a worn bed in the corner. Those films may have been filmed here.
It's cheap and called Sleep Cheap Hostel for a reason -- the area is actually fine though. If you need a quick and cheap bed near the airport for a night, then it serves a purpose -- but be warned, there's also an extra charge for bedsheets.
The Location
Take the tram to West End station; once there, it's a two-minute walk. Turn left as you exit the station and walk over the bridge. You'll soon see some shops on the lefthand side of the road, which is where the hostel is located.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Rooms are cramped and furnished with creaky metal beds. They are, however, comfy enough for one night. If you are lucky, there will be a small table in the room, and that's about it for facilities. Each dorm has an en suite shower and a toilet; however, this can soon turn into a negative if there's a smelly guest. Hot water was also an issue on this visit, as this is not present everywhere in the building. All areas are relatively clean; however, as most nights this is the cheapest place in the city to stay, you will have many non-travelers staying here long term that won't value cleaniness or being tidy.
Common Spaces
The official pictures for the common areas totally oversell this property. There is a small area at the entrance with some sofas, but you'll rarely see guests here. This area also has a computer, which is free to use, and a few board games too. In addition to this area, there is a small kitchen, which is surprisingly well equipped. There is a working cooker, fridge, microwave, and lot of pots and pans. This is also quite clean, as a cleaner comes daily.
Dorms are locked and each guest is issued a key but security is still an issue here. There are no lockers and even if there were you probably wouldn't want to leave any valuables here. Wi-Fi is strong throughout the building, yet a little slow.
Summary
There really is only one reason to stay here and that's to be near the airport. It's a long way from the sights of Berlin; with the extra money you will spend on traveling, as well as the bedsheets, you could have booked a much nicer hostel. The vibe here is nonexistent and meeting other travelers is going to be very difficult.

Description
We are located in Berlin-Charlottenburg in a very charming building from 1905 with high ceilings and beautiful details inside and outside and we also have a lift.
- we are only 5 minutes from Tegel Airport by car, 1 minute walking from
S-Bahnstation Westend, 5 Minutes from beautiful Schloss / Castle Charlottenburg
- 10 minutes from the Olympiastadion and from the ICC International Congress Centre and Messehallen, where all the big trade shows take place. We are close to the Grunewald and the Kurfürstendamm and 30 minutes from Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg.
We have 2 Massage specialsts inhouse, who also specialize in Shiatsu and Osteopatic treatments among other things, which will get you back in shape after
a long trip with a heavy backpack.
There´s also the Bistro Westend right next door and a Pizza place, Chinese Restaurant and a Café right around the corner.
Our rooms have hardwood floors, our lobby is cozy and comfortable and we provide Internet access and drinks.
Everybody is welcome at the SleepCheapHostel and we charge 10,- Euro per bed per night 365 days a year, including holidays and special events. If it´s your birthday and you´re celebrating with us, you can stay for free.
We are a No Smoking house and recommend you stop smoking anyway and save the money for trips around the world or donating it to people you randomly meet on your travels. Just try it and see what happens to your body and your mind :-)
If you don´t like what happens, you can always start smoking again – it´s a free country!
Our reception is open 24 hours a day and you are welcome to drop in any time of the day or night.
