Samesun Venice Beach Reviews

Not so good hostel, but ok,

The hostel is really a trap in the ass, but the good thing is that it's located quite good if you like the beach. Otherwise, some of the staff was nice, but some where really awful and not good at all. The atmosphere is ok. In general it's pretty ok if you want to have somewhere to sleep, but not more than that.

Great location, helpful staff, good fun

I wanted to stay by the coast in LA and you don't get much closer to the beach than at SameSun Venice. You're right by the boardwalk and straight onto the sand. it is a long way to Downtown and Hollywood, so if that's your thing you'd be better off elsewhere. The rooms weren't spotless, but nothing terrible, and the sheets were clean and the bed comfortable. It had about as much space as you could reasonably expect in a four bed dorm. There's free wifi but it is pretty slow, and free breakfast but that appears just to be tea/coffee and toast. Better than nothing but I've been to plenty of hostels where the breakfast is free and a lot more exciting. The staff were really helpful and friendly, and the hostel runs activities every evening which make it good for meeting people.

Close to the action

Me and my wife had a really good time at Samesun, it was close to LAX and right in the middle of Venice beach with everything within walking distance. There are plenty of convenience stores and places to eat whether they be cheap or more high priced. The bike hire right outside the door was awesome we paid $18 for a full days hire and we manged to ride all the way to either end of the bike track. It was a very social atmosphere and we met and partied with people from all around the world at the hostel, we had a private room with ensuite and we were very lucky to have a room facing the beach which was awesome. I would stay here again anytime I'm in LA.

Nice location, poor hostel

The staff were nice, after a couple of days. But be warned -- if you like to cook your own food, or don't like cigarette smoke, scratch this hostel off your list. The common area is smoking, and the smoke filters through the whole hostel. The "kitchen" has 2 plug-into-the-wall stove elements and plastic forks. The rooms are OK. They are resting on location as the selling point, but there are so many better hostels out there.

Great place to stay in the heart of Venice beach.

I initially booked a bed for two days just to check it out and ended up staying two weeks. The staff are super friendly. The General Manager, Kerry, is the heart and soul of the whole operation and a real sweetheart. She upgraded me to an ocean view room gratis. A comfy bed, ocean view, and cool roommates made for a great experience. Great energy, great people, a really great place to stay.

Forget to change my reservation, charged me $90, and never refund me

They forget to postpone my reservation in spite of they sent me a confirmation it had been changed. When we came in the hotel they had no room for us and charged us $90 because "we where supposed to come the day before." Then they admit this was their fault and told us we would be refund the $90 -- they never did. We sent fifteen-plus more emails and called them a couple of time, they almost never replied to email and didn't remember us! Don't stay here, they are not serious and not reliable!

Just Badass

I had the most amazing time in Venice, and its mostly because of this hostel. The people there were just awesome and friendly. everybody was like one big family and it's impossible for you to get bored! if you're planning on going to L.A., the Venice beach cotel is where you should stay! its just badass.

Best Hostel we had on our West coast Roadtrip

We traveled for two months all along the west coast and this hostel has been the best so far! The location is super awesome. You can see the beach from the lobby! The rooms were very clean (Daily Maid Service), we had a bathroom in our four-bed dorm. The staff were amazing as well. Very friendly and there is a party in the lobby everyday and you can drink and smoke in the lobby. Afterwards the staff takes you to the nearest pub/bar. The thing I liked most was the security. You have to ring the bell each time you enter and say your room number/name. Sometimes they even check your room key to make sure you're not a guest, which I really liked.

top notch personell

Perfect location and super friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast could be a bit better but for the price paid it's very good!

I had one night at Samesun. Great location steps from Venice Beach and all the area has to offer. The staff were friendly and accommodating - shout out to Sara for her help/hospitality!

Amazing location, friendly staff, and a good/ quiet nights sleep despite being right next to a few bars in the area!

Pros: friendly staff, location, & breakfast.

Cons: very dirty in general, extremely dirty bathrooms, & not a social hostel.

Awesome hostel! Definitely would like to back there! Clean, amazing staff, excellent location!

Our room was hot & muggy, us and our roomates agreed there had to something wrong with the AC but the front desk said there wasn't. They did give us a fan on the second night which made it a bit more livable. The noise level is insane, the beds were rusted (nearly cut myself), and the carpet is absolutely disgusting. Its central on Venice beach which is great but honestly thats the only redeeming quality.

Great place near Venice beach, walking distance.

Can be loud at night due to pubs nearby, but that's expected of Venice!

awesome hostel, great matress. but kinda dirty

A good hostel, nothing special but clean and right on Venice beach.

There was a guy at the front desk, Erick, super rede. He shouldnt be working on a customer service position

If you dont like sleeping then stay here.

There is a nightclub directly below the hostel and the walls were shaking the music was that loud. Music stays on until 2am. They should really disclose this to guests.

Good if youre looking for a party.

Not worth paying the amount for this hostel. We stayed in a private room which had no natural light, and was absolutely not worth what we payed. Too small. Too cramped. Payed hotel price for less than motel standard. Bathrooms also were not clean and what was advertised was not what we received.

Hostel is right at the beach which you can see from the spacious lounge area. Overall ok place, some of the staff were demotivated and unfriendly, most were nice. Very few showers and bathrooms, expect to queue or get up early.

Location was great. Area may seem sketch but is safe. As a solo traveler I always appreciate communal space and feel the space did not do enough to bring people together; however I would stay there again if visiting the area. Staff was helpful, not overly friendly but were chill.

This hostel is in a great location, right at the main entrance of the beach. The price is very reasonable, that includes a quick basic breakfast. However I think it is important to let guests know that it is very loud outside at all hours. Especially on weekends, as there is a bar right next door open until 2AM. Also there is no parking in the area. It is very stressful if you are driving. You have 5 mins to load out in the busy street and then hope you can find a spot somewhere in the area.

A HUGE thank you to the wonderful team at the Samesun Venice Beach!

I can't say enough great things about this hostel. The location is unbeatable. The "vibe" is amazing. And the staff is just beyond phenomenal, always doing what they can to ensure that each guest gets the best experience.

If you are staying in LA, this is absolutely the place to stay. So many travellers (including myself) have stayed much longer than they anticipated to, because they just fall in love with this place!

This hostel is a must go if you're looking for a perfect location near the beach, the nightlife and good vibes. The atmosphere of the hostel was really amazing, I've met lots of nice people including the staff from the hostel. Youre right next to the Venice Sign, next to the beach, close to everything (in the area bc we know LA is HUGE). If I ever come back to LA, I'd choose this place.

False advertising with pics and luggage information. Staff were less than friendly. And a few of the other guests made the experience absolutely horrible. My first and last time staying with Samesun.

Jolly good

The Venice Beach Cotel is right on the Venice Boardwalk. You can't get closer to the beach without being in the Ocean. Boogie boards and paddle tennis gear is available for use by guests for free.
We are also within easy walking distance to a wide variety of Venice's cafes, bars and restaurants.
All guests must show a valid passport on check-in.

Location and Contact

• The last building on Windward Avenue. Look for the building with international flags right on the beach.
• Shuttle (Van)/Taxi Service to our Venice Beach Hostel
• For one to two people we recommend that you take a shuttle service (van) to our Los Angeles airport hostel. We have a great deal with a local shuttle service called "Coast Shuttle", who will bring you to us for only $12 for one person (and $6 for any extra person). All you have to do is call 1.800.449.8267 (free number) when you arrive to LAX. They will pick you up in less than 10 minutes, and will drop you off at our front door in less than 25 minutes. If there are three or more people traveling together, we recommend that you take a taxi to the Venice Beach Cotel Hostel. It is less expensive than the shuttle service (van).
