TRIBE THEORY - Entrepreneurs & Startups Hostel is a non-smoking hostel with an open area outside behind it. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Travelers are interesting due to the hostel's focus on attracting entrepreneurs. Wi-Fi works well and some of the interior is modern with bean bags, lights, and modern conveniences. Staff show you where everything is upon check-in.
The Location
It's located in Tallinn's World Heritage Old Town. Cobblestones, cafes, tourist attractions, and hipster bars are all within walking distance. An easy public transport option is the Kanuti tram stop.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are basic bathrooms and toilets -- named "thinking rooms" and "miracle rooms" -- on each of the two levels, but none have windows. The cleaning schedule indicates daily cleaning. Clothes/towel hangers are fixed very close to the shower. The shower heads don't work well, although the water pressure is strong and the water is hot. The middle bathroom door (second level) does not close properly and so travelers slam this door although the evening.
The hostel has dorm rooms and private rooms. The private rooms contain two beds, desk, and a bin. The dorm rooms have lockers and each of the beds has its own light. There are sufficient power sockets for charging phones and laptops. The dorm door on the second level has no knob so the door is open and unlocked at all times.
Common Spaces
The kitchen area is large and very clean. The lounge area is designed for relaxing and working, and it's perfect if you want to work on a laptop and listen to music. The hostel often holds events in this area (for entrepreneurs). Drinking past 11 p.m. is not permitted, and this keeps the hostel fairly quiet. At the back of the hostel is an open area, which leads to a carpark. It's simply equipped with crates for seats and a few bins and it's appropriate for socialising.
Summary
This modern hostel is perfect for travelers who are interested in startups or digital-nomadic work. The hostel makes a real effort to connect travelers with businesses or like-minded individuals. Its interior, paired with the "right type of people," makes for a welcoming, positive vibe. Security cameras, a locked luggage room, and doorknobs on all dorms would make for a welcome improvement to an otherwise very good hostel.
