The Journey Hostels scores high on the "value for money" parameter. In a city where traveling by cab from workplace to home during peak hours can cost a few hundreds, this hostel is a great alternative to avoid the traffic and save time by spending money on accommodation rather than transportation.
The Location
Present in Koramangala, the start-up hub of Bangalore, this hostel is just a few hundred metres away from the main road, and hence very well connected to public transport (Jyoti Nivas college bus stop). Not to mention that the proximity to some of the coolest pubs in Bangalore makes this a great destination for youngsters who like to party until late night.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Since this is a house remodeled into a hostel, the layout may not be what you normally find in a typical hostel. You will find certain dorm beds in the hall area itself, which can be quite inconvenient, but of course these beds are priced lower.
The ladies dorm is well air-conditioned and neatly maintained. The bathroom is reasonably spacious and clean.
Common Spaces
The common area is limited to a sofa at the entrance, although this area is very well available for birthday celebrations or other fun things that you normally find in a hostel.
The kitchen is equipped with basic utensils and a fridge. Guests are also permitted to store alcohol or beer cans or cool drinks in the fridge. The dining area, which is right outside the kitchen, is also adjacent to some dorm beds, which can be inconvenient for both the users of those beds as well as those who wish to use the dining table (although obviously the former will be much more inconvenienced). This area of the layout is particularly lacking in thought, as it seems to cramp the area with more beds rather than provide a nice, spacious area to move around.
Summary
This is a great place if you wish to just crash and spend the night at one of the most happening areas in Bangalore. Working professionals who live far from work should certainly consider this as an alternative to spending on a cab during peak hours on a rainy day. If the stay is cheaper than traveling to and fro, then you might as well just stay back close to the office!
