The World Walker Lodge - Siem Reap is a tiny, family-run hostel located in a residential area away from the center. The hostel only has one room, a huge hall with around twenty beds, which often gets booked by Cambodian groups, so do not expect a real backpackers' vibe!
The Location
World Walker is located in the south of Siem Reap, in a highly residential, non-touristy part of the city. This is the ideal place to experience real Cambodian life, both because you are right next to a busy market and because there is really not that much here apart from the homes of friendly locals. The hostel is right on the opposite side of the city from Angkor Wat, so if you are planning to head there for the day, make sure to order pick-up the day before!
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel offers only one room, but this is huge -- basically, you have a row of single beds lined up next to each other with a little bedside table next to each. The booking sites may list this as a nine-person dorm, but you can definitely fit at least twenty people inside! This might be problematic when deciding when to switch off the light at night and when people have different schedules of waking up in the morning. The place is most popular with local tourists, so expect to have people getting up next to you from 6 a.m. already. The room is en suite, but the number of toilets is definitely not enough if the place is full. Moreover, the bathrooms are really rundown and basic.
Common Spaces
There is a very nice mini-courtyard area in between the reception and the dorm room with wooden furniture and some hanging plants above it. Here, you can enjoy a nice breakfast at reasonable prices. However, be aware that any kind of extra you might need, like the use of a hair dryer or even a blanket, you will be charged for. The bed rates are very cheap, so this is the owner's way to compensate for that.
Summary
Considering that World Walker is probably the cheapest place you will find in the extremely touristy Siem Reap, it is not a bad choice. However, make sure you are ok with huge crowds in your dorm and a location that's quite a distance from all the attractions.
