Hostel Puerto, Algeciras

If you're like most people coming to Algeciras and want to hop on a ferry to Morocco, Hostel Puerto Algeciras is a good starting point for it, as it is located very close to the ferry terminal. It offers stable bunk beds with extra privacy because of curtains, and large common area in an industrial-loft-style atmosphere.

The Location

This Algeciras hostel is conveniently located both close to bus and train station and the harbour where the ferries depart. To the main square of Algeciras, it is a ten-minute walk and you have lots of small shops and bakeries in the neighbouring streets.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There are two rooms (gender-segregated dorms) with bunk beds. Every bed has a light and an electricity outlet as well as curtains for more privacy. There is also a bathroom for each gender; strangely enough, the women's bathroom is only one room with both shower and toilet, while the men's bathroom has two showers and two toilets, as far as we could see, with individual cabins. This can lead to queues for the women's bathroom.
The bunk beds are rather comfortable and offer some more space and stability than it is often the case in low-priced hostels.

Common Spaces

There are lockers in the common area, and there is a big and well-equipped kitchen and lots of spaces to sit down. This Algeciras hostel has a washing machine that you can use for a charge after asking the staff. You could grab a bar chair and look out to the cranes in the harbour from the common space, as well as find a place on the couch and go through some books, maps, and brochures the hostel offers or other travelers have left. There is no party atmosphere in the hostel at the time of reviewing, but that does not mean you do not get in contact with fellow travelers -- due to the large common area in the heart of the hostel, this is rather likely.

Summary

This Algeciras hostel offers a good hostel standard -- twenty-four-hour reception, your own power outlet and lamp next to the bed, cleanliness, and even special features such as privacy and a washing machine. The only minus at the time of reviewing is the one bathroom for women for up to ten guests -- even more so, as toilet and shower are not separate.
