NosDa Studio Hostel

The Review

NosDa Studio Hostel is a buzzing hostel and great for the price. Here you will get the best of both -- a quiet and relaxing hostel with a sociable bar located on the river that runs through the city center. It’s clean, secure, and there’s a decent free breakfast included, too. Parking is available around the back in a secure, locked car park, but this has to be booked in advance for a small fee. Be aware that the parking fees almost double on weekends though.

The Location

It's a relatively easy walk from the train station. As you come out the train station, walk left toward the cinema. When you get there, head left across the river and take the first right. Walk along the river for a hundred meters, and you'll see the hostel straight in front of you.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Rooms are spacious and are fitted with big, comfy beds. They are also secure, with security card access and lockers in the dorms. Wi-Fi unfortunately isn’t present in the dorms furthest away from the bar, but there are large and quiet common areas downstairs where you can get a signal. Each floor has male and female bathrooms with plenty of showers and toilets, so queuing is never a problem. Hot water is constant and the showers are lovely. The rooms are also quiet, however keep in mind that on weekends there may be many people staying who are looking to party in Cardiff.

Common Spaces

The main common area is a large but cozy bar that has a pool table and lots of seating. You can chill out on the sofas or even sit out on the balcony that overlooks the river and the Welsh National Stadium. You’ll always see people hanging out here and it seems that locals also use the bar, too. There are also a few laptops that you can use for free and a large breakfast is served here each morning (this consists of cereal, fruit, toast, loads of different jams and spreads, and tea/coffee and fresh orange juice). There is also a large common area separate from the bar, which is quiet and full of sofas. It also has a TV and a few tables.

This has everything you want in a hostel. Overall, it's clean, but due to its size, you may find the odd place a bit messy. It’s a short walk from the bar street in the city center and there are loads of tours and activities available to book at the desk. The atmosphere is very friendly, so meeting people will be easy, and if there is a group of you, the bar is a perfect place to start out your night.

Good location and facilities
Stayed two nights. Seven beds in room. Adequate showers and toilets, never had to wait. Staff is helpful. Good bar with enough distance from sleeping rooms so that open-mike noise was not an issue. Cereal and bread breakfast, nothing exciting. Cooking area roomy, clean, well stocked with utensils. Lots of card-swipe type locks, but most were not yet fully installed. Door to bunk room would not shut without a bit of wrestling. Felt secure. I rented a locker to be cautious with my stuff. Saggy bed frame, but adequate for the price.

Nothing to complain!
Great location, tidy, clean, friendly staff, good breakfast, free wi-fi! Everything was just great!
A very good hostel
I've been in Nosda hostel for 4 nights. Positives include that The staff was very friendly; Pool table; Gym (I didn't use it, don't know what condition it is in); Serve good pizzas; Near the city centre (as everything is); Good common space; Serve breakfast until 10 am; Can check-out until 11 am; Free breakfast; Very quiet neighbourhood, if your roomies don't make to much noise; They lock the main doors between mid night and 1 am for security reasons (knock and they'll open it); The reception is open 24/7. Negatives include that I slept in a broken bed or with really bad springs (it sank in the middle); Narrow halls/staircase/bathroom/shower; I'm 1.80m and I almost hand my feet outside my bed; I saw an employee drinking alcohol and flirting with a guest, while wearing his/her uniform (could be a positive depending on what you expect from a hostel).
NosDa Studio Hostel is a really clean and modern hostel conveniently located in Cardiff close to the attractions and bars. The Location To get to NosDa from the Cardiff Central train and bus station, cross the bridge over the River Taff, turn rightm and follow along the river until you run straight into the hostel a little before the next bridge and across the river from the Millennium Stadium. Take note that the Megabus drops off somewhere different completely and these directions are useless. Rooms and Bathrooms The rooms at this hostel are new, clean, and secure. You need a key card to enter the hostel from the bar area and again to enter some of the hallways and each of the rooms. The rooms themselves are spacious enough -- they have several bunk beds, a few chairs, and a sink and mirror. Not all of the rooms have in room lockers but there is a locker area where you can rent a key and store your valuables for a small deposit. There is also enough floor space to leave your suitcase and still be able to move about the room. The bathrooms are single sex and located on the hall. They have a couple toilets, two sinks, and maybe three showers each. These bathrooms are actually clean. The shower cubicles have a small attached changing area with a curtain divider. The only major problem we found was that these are push button showers and the water is always so hot, it was impossible to actually get into the shower. Common Spaces The common areas in this hostel put many others to shame. There is the usual kitchen, lounge area, and bar but in addition to this there is also a gym you can use for a small fee and an attached nightclub. A basic hostel breakfast is available in the price of the room. There are also vending machines and the lounge area has plenty of comfy seating, Wi-Fi, games, a TV, and books. The bar is open to the general public and serves food in addition to drinks, there's a pool table and a couple of laptops for guest use. There is also an outdoor patio with a BBQ that the staff will occasionally cook out on. This hostel is pretty cool and has a chill atmosphere but it's not the most social. The staff are great and really friendly to a single traveler but fellow travelers mostly keep to themselves. Summary NosDa is a nice, new hostel awesomely located in Cardiff. The hostel's fun -- the city, not so much.
