Grand-Rem Kyoto is a modern hostel in a lively part of Kyoto. The owner is very professional and welcoming. He clearly cares about doing things well, and that is reflected in the overall atmosphere and condition of the hostel. The atmosphere is very calm and professional but also friendly and relaxed.
The Location
Just a few minutes from both the lively Shinkyogoku Shopping Street and Nishiki Market, Grand-Rem is in the best part of Kyoto for travelers. Between the nearby market and many restaurants nearby, it's a great place to find local foods including ramen, takoyaki, and mochi. It is less than ten minutes to the subway, so it is very easy to visit other areas of Kyoto. The hostel is just as close to the Kamo River, which is a popular spot to go for a walk or hang out in the evenings.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are recently renovated and are capsule style, providing privacy and curtains that block out light well during any time of day. The beds are very comfortable with cozy blankets. The hostel has options for both dorm and private rooms. There are large lockers under the beds with locks provided, as well as hooks and hangers for jackets. Bathrooms are clean and well-maintained. Shower rooms have a separate space outside of the shower for changing and keeping belongings dry. The shower, toilet, and sink all being in separate rooms makes the space very functional. The hostel is secure, with a keypad lock on the main door at night and each room having its own lock.
Common Spaces
There is some seating next to the entrance along with a computer that is free for guests to use. Another common space is on the second floor with sofas, tables and chairs, and a refrigerator. The hostel is fairly subdued, but these common spaces provide opportunities to socialize and meet other travelers. Luggage storage is available at the desk and is very secure.
Summary
Grand-Rem is a comfortable and secure hostel. It's in a great location to make the most of all that Kyoto has to offer and is a peaceful place to return to after a day of exploring. This hostel is a good option for anyone from solo travelers to couples, as it is a pleasant place to spend time and ideal for seeing the city.

Location
• The way from KIX to Kyoto station.
• At KIX, get on JR line HARUKA. You can get to Kyoto station directly. It costs about 1h30min, 2850jpy.
• The way by train from Kyoto station.
• Please take the Karasuma subway line to Shijo at Kyoto Station. Get off at the second station Shijo and change line to Hankyu Kyoto line. Please get off at Kawaramachi station. Go out from exit 9. Go along Shijo Dori to West and head up to North at the corner of Gokomachi Dori. Our hostel would be seen on the left in five minutes beyond the Nishiki market.
• The way by bus from Kyoto station.
• Take the bus 4, 5, 17,104 or 205 from Kyoto Station bus terminal A2. Get off at Shijo Kawaramachi and go along Shijo Dori to West and head up to North. Our hostel would be seen on the left in five minutes beyond the Nishiki market.
