Sunset Homestay 2, Kuching

Sunset Homestay 2 is a very welcoming and clean hostel very close to Kuching city centre. With organised tours and helpful staff puts this hostel above the rest. They also provide laundry services and sell snacks and drinks.

The Location

Sunset Homestay 2 is seven hundred meters away from the waterfront (it takes around fifteen minutes to walk there). The airport is twelve kilometers away and it costs very little to book a Grab taxi from the airport to the hostel. There is a popular restaurant next door, but other than that, everything else is located near the waterfront. There are ample parking spaces in front of the hostel and the hostel also provides car hire for guests.

Rooms and Bathrooms

All rooms are air-conditioned and there is excellent Wi-Fi throughout the hostel. There is one mixed dormitory that sleeps six, double and twin rooms with shared bathrooms, double rooms with private bathrooms, and one family room that sleeps ten. The mixed dormitory holds three single bunk beds, and each bed is allocated a small locker to hold their valuables. The bunk beds do not have individual curtains for privacy. The dormitory door has a key lock and the room is very spacious. The bathrooms are wet rooms (toilet and shower in one) with separate basins. The showers have hooks for towels and there is enough space to get dressed. The showers have good pressure and hot water.

Common Spaces

The hostel is spread over three floors with a common space on each level. The main common area on the first floor has a nice area to meet other travelers. There is a long table with board games and free tea and coffee all day. There is a book exchange and also a notice board with various tours and excursions to do in and around Kuching. There is no smoking in the common room, but you are allowed to order takeout and eat food there.

Summary

Sunset Homestay 2 is an excellent place to stay for any traveler on a budget. The facilities are great, the rooms are very comfortable, and the staff are always smiling. The only negative point about the hostel is that smoking is allowed in the bathroom, which causes the bathroom to smell, and guests tend to leave their cigarette butts out. Other than that, this hostel is highly recommended.
