Lemon Tree Hostel Reviews

Lemon Tree Hostel is a large hostel with a party atmosphere and it comes with a horde of hungry mosquitoes.

The Location

The hostel is located five minutes' walking distance from the central square (Plaza Central) and there are shops and restaurants nearby.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorm rooms have double or triple bunk beds and are very spacious. The beds are sturdy with comfortable mattresses and clean sheets. Apart from the top bunks, each bed has a privacy curtain. There is also a light and an electrical socket. Lockers are underneath the bottom bunk (bring a lock) and there are not enough for each bed in the larger dorms (additionally some are broken). There is no air conditioning and there are no fans. Doors to the dorm can not be locked and the entrance to the hostel is open until 10 p.m. The dorms have high ceilings and unfortunately house a multitude of mosquitoes. This is probably the reason they sell mosquito repellent at reception, which does not help much to deter the hungry insects.

Bathrooms are reasonably clean with rows of wash basins, toilets, and shower cubicles. The shower cubicles have hooks on the back of the door and a shower curtain to keep your clothes dry. The water is warm with good water pressure. The lighting is fairly weak.

Common Spaces

The main common area is a large courtyard with garden furniture and a bar in an old yellow van. There is also a small plane in the courtyard. The sides of the courtyard are under a roof and have hammocks and more chairs for chilling. There is also a small common room with a couch, a TV, and a decent book exchange with lots of English books and travel guides. Music is playing in the courtyard roughly from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and it can get fairly loud at times. There is a small kitchen area with basic utensils for use, but no fridge. The hostel feels very much like a party place and playing beer pong sets the tone.

Summary

This is a large hostel with clean beds and bathrooms as well as a gorgeous courtyard where you can hang out. Furthermore there is very good Wi-Fi and it works throughout the property. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes living in the dorms make sleeping a less-than-pleasant experience.
