Hostel Reviews

Hostel Villahormes is the only one in town (it is more like a village, really) at the time of writing. It is rather new and very basic; hopefully they will improve with time. It is conveniently located, on the Camino del Norte, the northern route of the Camino de Santiago, and serves as a decent place to sleep if you're too tired to keep walking to the next town.

The Location

The hostel is located right on the Camino de Santiago, so you don't need to look very far; both the way leading to it and the way after are quite hilly, so either way it's a good place to rest. The hostel is located in a little village, but there isn't anything around, really. So you either need to be prepared with groceries or you'll have to visit the little cafe/restaurant on site.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Both rooms and bathrooms are in a pretty shabby state. There are only two medium-sized dorms; the rooms aren't even sealed from the outside, so it can get quite cold here at night. The beds are extremely squeaky and noisy and neither sheets nor towels are provided -- you'll definitely need to use your sleeping bag here. There are some warm blankets, but they seem dirty. Other than that, there are a few chairs in the room. The rooms are quite spacious, though. The bathrooms are dirty and it doesn't seem like anyone is bothering to take care of them at all.

Common Spaces

We were surprised to find a mini communal kitchen, with cooking dishes, but no stove, no microwave, and not even a kettle. So the kitchen is quite useless, really. There are a few seats and little tables and that's it. It is by far one of the most minimalistic hostels we've been to, and that's not a complement. There is supposedly free Wi-Fi, but it doesn't actually work anywhere but at reception. The reception is located in a tiny room, which also serves as the cafe and basically has just one table. They do have decent food and coffee and some drinks, and you probably won't have a choice but to use their services if you stay here. There is a nice backyard that is really looked after, unlike the rest of the place.

Summary

While we were very grateful to have a bed for the night, unfortunately we cannot recommend this hostel, as the stay here is neither very nice nor comfortable. It's a last resort, really.
