Ekaana Cottage, located in a nice, upper-class area of Chennai, offers comfortable and clean rooms and a variety of common areas, but something is just not quite right. With many rules and regulations and the absolute lack of customer service, you will feel that you are at the mercy of the owner, which will make it hard to have a relaxing time.
In a place as big and spread out as Chennai, it is hard to pinpoint one area as the best place to stay, but this is as close as it gets. The hostel is located about half an hour from the beach, even if it is definitely not the best section of it. However, you have Kapaleeswarar Temple right on your doorstep, and the area in which the hostel is found is quite safe and upper class as well. The hostel is situated at the end of a dead-end street, so it is the perfect location for a quiet night’s sleep and you will be far away from the smoke and noise of the traffic of the big city.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel offers dorm and private rooms alike. The dorms have a small number of bunk beds with thick blue curtains around them. However, they do not quite cover every part of the bed, so you will have some light shining in. The rooms are cooled both by air conditioning and fans, and are en suite. The bathrooms are modern and nice, but the hostel sometimes experiences water shortages and problems with its hot water supply.
At this place, you have a wide variety of common areas. There are some balconies, a TV room with sofas, a dining area with free drinking water, and you can enjoy the ourdoors garden area as well. However, the hostel does not provide a place to store your baggage, so if you want to check in early or leave your luggage for a few extra hours after checkout, they will charge you for an extra day and they are very strict about checking out on time.
Ekaana Cottages could be the ideal place to stay in Chennai if a little bit more attention were paid to customer service. However, like this, you might easily end up feeling like you are walking on eggs the whole time during your holidays.
