Great
Friendly staff, decent breakfast, decent wifi. The second building is a few minutes walk away which is slightly annoying for breakfast but that's really the only downside.
What a place!
This hostel stands out as one of the best I have been to. The staff are excellent and go out of their way to help you in every way. You feel like they arent just doing it as a job but they really WANT you to have a good stay in Plovidiv. The hostel itself is clean and has a really friendly and homey atmosphere. With a great breakfast and fruit salad like no other I would recommend this hostel to anyone!
Hikers Hostel Plovdiv is a great place to stay, whether it be for a couple of days or a couple of weeks. It has a great atmosphere that promotes socialization, so if you are looking to meet people from all over then this is a great place to stay. Also, the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful and have great ideas regarding what to see and do in the city and the surrounding area.
The Location
The hostel is only a short distance away (around ten minutes' walking) from the historic area of Plovdiv, making it a great choice. Also within walking distance there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and grocery stores. The hostel is about a thirty-minute walk from the train station, and is pretty easy to find, but a taxi is also another option. The hostel sits midway on a small hill, which if you walk another five minutes up, leads to the top and has great views of the city. Because the hostel is tucked away on a side street, it is very quiet at night and seems safe.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are very clean and well kept. There are lockers and locks within the rooms, so security is not a problem in the dorm room and there is also a private room available. The beds do squeak a bit every time someone moves, but other than that the rooms are perfect. The bathrooms are downstairs and are shared by everyone in the hostel, but they too are clean and there is rarely an issue with there not being enough of them. However, the shower is very small and is awkwardly located in the same stall with a toilet and sink.
Common Spaces
The outdoor common space consists of several couches and is a great hang-out spot. Often times local younger people come over to hang out and they are fun and informative. The outer common area is also where a delicious breakfast is served. The hostel also has a common area inside and it consists of a couch and a computer with internet access (there is also free Wi-Fi throughout the hostel). There is also a kitchen available for use and laundry services can be provided for a small fee.
Summary
Overall, Hikers Hostel is a great place to stay. The staff are friendly and have great suggestions on what to do and where to go and the hostel is clean and has a great, social environment.
Good for social people, bad for those who want decent sleep
The atmosphere is good, as well as the location in the old part of the city (although trying to walk here with a heavy pack was not a good idea -- better get a taxi, since free pick up was not offered, only available if you also booked at Hiker's Hostel at Veliko Tarnovo). There was only one bathroom for 8 dorm beds and a private room, so that makes for a hectic morning. Free breakfast is tea, muesli, bread, jam, meat, and cheese. There was also free internet in the one computer they have. The staff was friendly, but not professional. I woke up to one of the female staff having sex with someone staying at the hostel one day. The next night, the other female staff was loudly drinking with the other tourists.
Very friendly and a nice place to stay
We stayed here after another hostel in the centre and it was a breath of fresh air. The staff could not be better and were very helpful. All the advertising claims were truthful and we enjoyed our stay. Overall it had a nice friendly feel about it and we would not hesitate to recommend it.
Lovely
Really nice -- the staff are excellent, and although it rained for a whole day, it was a relaxing and comfortable place to hang out. The location is perfect (although you'll need to take advantage of the pick-up service from the station), and the cosy attic was one of the best private rooms we've encountered. Very much recommended!
Nice and friendly
Good location, very friendly English speaking staff, and they sell cheap beer. It rained non stop whilst we were in Plovdiv, and the rain did get inside the hostel through the holes in the wall where the cables came in. However we did apparently experience the worst weather they have had in Plovdiv for two and a half years, so I expect this was a one off.
The best hostel I have ever stayed in. Small, cozy, clean, cool, with good atmosphere; friendly, welcoming and very helpful staff; free internet, cold beer. Great location in the middle of the old town, a nice terrasse (and I think they let you sleep in there in the summer if the dorms are full). I have not seen the property down the street that also belongs to the hostel but from what I've seen I have nothing then the best to say about this hostel. I am sure anyone who will stay there will enjoy it as much as I did.
A unique hostel experience in a great Plovdiv location. Expect to find a cast of characters from all over the world enjoying themselves at this location.
Great location, affordable and gets the job done for a short stay. Excellent atmosphere thanks to the staff - shoutout Dave and Tobias, you guys were one of a kind.
Lovely place great staff and perfect location
VERY POOR. 1. Booked online. 2. Follow up email = No reply. 2. Arrived at 6pm. Gate locked. 3. Nobody answered the phone # on gate 4. Eventually someone answered the (different) phone # on the booking confirmation. Allegedly someone coming to unlock the gate. 5. No one came. I called again. No one came. 6. Eventually someone called to say they'd be another 20 minutes (Total wait = 1 hr 15 min). 7. Then a call to go to a different hostel. 8. Then another change of plan. 9. I went elsewhere
AVOID!
Lovely little place. Very close walking distance to the best food, bars and shops. Right in the centre of the town. Good atmosphere and good people around. Showers are great. Thank you to the chief for cooking us bbq and looking after us all throughout our visit! He will be able to give you plenty of recommendations.
Pros: good location, relaxed atmosphere, nice terrace.
Cons: little privacy on bathrooms, tiny shower with tiny mirror and no plug.
Friendly staff. Good breakfast and location
Liked: This is an excellent hostel with a great community-minded atmosphere. There is a common room and beautiful courtyard where guests and staff can relax, and hang out and eat together. I felt very comfortable and relaxed staying here - I wish all hostels were like this! Didn't like: Nothing!
Liked: Great friendly staff, and atmosphere with excellent garden / terrace for beers, and fig smoothies, Wills speciality. Location quiet and historical. Didn't like: Dorms need more fans, and a fewer beds.
Liked: This hostel was great, and a stand-alone when it comes to Plovdiv. Thanks especially to the staff (Robbie, cheers!) for making everything so easy. Great atomosphere, chill vibe, and great location. Highly recommended! Didn't like: Nada.
Liked: Fantastic location, and nice friendly atmosphere -- dorm is very crowded, but it's fine for a short stay. Didn't like: No secure lockers.
Liked: Staff were friendly and when we left after only staying 1 night out of the 3 booked we were given a full refund. Didn't like: Private room not at the hostel but down the road wedged between two shops. Dead mosquitos on the walls of the room. Mosquitos buzzing around all night, got lots of bites. Beds rock hard. Shared bathroom not clean. Left after 1 night after barely sleeping and moved to a cheap hotel nearby for just a few pounds more where we got a much better nights sleep.
So when i rocked up at Hikers hostel (with a booking) it turns out they were actually full and didn't have a room. Not ideal, but someone staying there had a twin and let me stay with them. Now I should probably have been annoyed but everyone here was so lovely I couldn't help but love it. The breakfast was great, we drank on the hill at sunset and there was some sort of musical conference going on so the hostel was full of people singing and jamming together it was awesome. Would come back.
Really friendly and generous staff!
Liked: ///////// Didn't like: Don't require me to enter comments or say if J 's was promoted, cause i did not notice.
A nice enough hostel in the old town of Plovdiv. Free breakfast and wifi included :)
