The Purpose Hostel is a small, nearly perfect hostel in Antigua. Not only does it provide everything a weary traveler needs, but it is also on a mission to make the world a better place through the “Purpose Programs,” which give you the opportunity to lend a hand/skills in the local community.
The Location
The hostel is located in the city centre in a residential neighbourhood about ten minutes' walking distance from the central square (Plaza Central). There are shops and restaurants within a couple minutes' walk. The neighbourhood feels safe and is a good place for starting to explore Antigua.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm room have two or three sturdy metal bunk beds with large lockers next to them (bring a lock). Dorm doors are not locked but the entrance to the hotel requires that you are buzzed in and out, thus the hostel feels very safe. Dorms have no windows to the outside, but instead face corridors and open courtyards. There is still plenty of light and dorms have a moving fan on the ceiling. Also this hostel seems to be mosquito free. Each bunk has white curtains for a modicum of privacy, the sheets are clean, and the mattresses are just right. Furthermore each bunk has a light as well as an electrical outlet.
There are mixed-gender showers and toilets on both floors and they are very clean. The water is hot with good water pressure, but there is no space to put your clothes while taking a shower. There are no hooks or shelves and the shower stalls open directly into the corridor, into which the toilets open too. This makes the bathrooms feel fairly cramped.
Common Spaces
There are a total of three comfy common areas on two floors as well as a beautiful roof terrace. The common areas have plenty of cushions, bean bag chairs, and electrical outlets. There is a decent book exchange with lots of English books as well as some travel guides. There is no kitchen and no kind of dining table for eating takeaway. The hostel is a friendly place but is fairly quiet.
Summary
The Purpose Hostel is a clean quiet place to chill for a couple of days. They have excellent Wi-Fi throughout the property and a beautiful roof terrace on which to relax.

Located on the south side of town, 9 Calle Oriente #6, between 2nd and 3rd avenida. When entering Antigua coming from the airport go straight on 3rd Calle and make a left on 2nd avenida. After 6 blocks make a right on 9 Calle. You'll find us on your right hand side in the middle of this block.
