Hostel Rio Elemento has great common spaces and is in easy walking distance of Minca's town. It’s a great location from which to base yourself while exploring the beautiful surrounding area.
The Location
The hostel locations in Minca are broadly split into those on top of the hills surrounding the town and the ones close to the town centre. This hostel fits into the latter category and is a light, ten-minute walk uphill from town. This location does mean you don’t get to see any of Minca’s famous sunsets from the hostel, but it does save you money on the moto taxi others take to and from their hostels. The hostel is located on the right hand side of a dirt road leading out of Minca. It has a bright green floodlight at night so you can spot it in the dark.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel has dorm rooms and a fifteen-“bed” hammock area, which has a roof but no walls on one side. This does mean that you’re quite exposed, but the cover is sufficient. There are outlets next to every hammock and also individual lockers to use. If you are happy sleeping in a hammock, it’s a nice space and a blanket is provided with the hammock. The hammocks all have mosquito nets protecting them.
The bathrooms are very large with a lot of unused space and are kept clean by staff. The bathrooms are located in the main building, which is a bit of a walk from where the hammocks are. They are well maintained and have good facilities inside with a decent-pressure cold shower.
Common Spaces
The common spaces are one of this hostels best assets. There is a pool and bar area located down some stairs off the main hostel. This pool has a swing and lots of hammocks located nearby. There is also a larger shared hammock closer to the river, which runs by the hostel. The bar area is directly next to the pool and has a good selection of seating nearby. The atmosphere in this area is fairly lively, but as it’s exposed except for the bar, it might not be the best space in the rain.
The hostel also has a patio, BBQ area, TV room, and seating by reception. There are plenty places to chill if you want a quiet night and not hang out at the bar.

The hostel has a fantastic collection of common spaces to use for those who want to party or chill out. With its friendly atmosphere and great location, this is a great place to stay in Minca.

• From Santa Marta by taxi or 'colectivo':
• A 'Colectivo' is a shared taxi you can get from the market in Santa Marta. Pick up spot is located on Carrera 9 con Calle 12, downtown Santa Marta. It is very easy to find. Once your close, if your Spanish is limited simply keep repeating Minca to anyone that will listen. Follow
• their pointing and it should only take a second or two. It costs 9.000 COP and takes 45 mins
• Now your in Minca, you can walk to the hostel in 5 mins. Just follow the instructions in the located near section.Or iIf you prefer then hop on a Minca-Moto. Look out for their colorful black and turquoise jackets, it should cost 5.000 or 7.000 COP and take about 1 min.
• From Several locations by our shuttle service:
• One of our drivers will pick you up from your hostel, the beach, the airport or wherever you are in Santa Marta, Taganga or Rodadero and bring you and up to six guests to Rio Elemento directly.
• It works best with 4-7 people, it will cost 15.000 COP . The price does not change with a bigger group, however, you can hire the Jeep for one or two people if you are willing to pay the minimum 80,000 COP.
• You will have the option to make a stop along the way at an ATM, bring a beverage or two, take photos, and basically sit back and relax. From Santa Marta to Rio Elemento takes, approx 40 minutes. It's slightly longer and costs a little more if you are coming from one of the other destinations previously mentioned. Any trip after dark (6pm) will always have a surcharge. We can also organize your transport back down the Santa Marta on your check out day.
