Bunk Planet is located in the basement of a hotel -- while you get to use the fancy common areas of the hotel, the sleeping places are bathrooms are rather basic.

The Location

Bunk Planet is located only a few minutes away from the busy road that leads from Ella to Kandy -- if you are traveling by bus, make sure to keep an eye on your electronic map and get off before you reach the bus depot. Here, you will be staying on a modern commercial street with all kinds of stores. The centre of Kandy is rather far from here so you might want to take the bus or a tuk tuk.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There is only one room at this hostel -- a massive hall that has capsule beds on both sides. The beds are guaranteed to be lightproof, as they have thick curtains on them, but you might have troubles waking up in the morning as there is no natural light entering here either. You have your electronic plug and reading lamp inside the capsules, even if some of these are broken and you can store your backpack on a locker under the beds. The bathrooms are just in front of this hall and are really badly made and are literally falling apart. There is also an improvised carpet on the floor as the original cover did not last long, which is rather disappointing.

Common Spaces

Once you exit the "underworld," the place shows a completely different face -- the common areas overlook the mountains and are nice and clean. You have multiple levels to choose from, with comfy sofas and chairs right in front of the massive windows. You can also pay for a buffet breakfast here, which will be worth it just for the venue alone at the top of the building! Also, if you plan to stay at Bedbox in Dambulla after having stayed here, ask for the voucher at the reception for a discount!

Summary

Bunk Planet might be an ok place to stay for a few nights, and lovers of privacy especially will appreciate their capsule arrangements. However, it might get a little claustrophobic after a while, due to it all being crammed into the basement.
