Beatroot Hostels is an extremely chilled-out place to stay, and if you're into surfing, yoga, cooking, or just kicking back listening to tunes all day, you'll love it here. It's small enough for you to meet everyone staying, yet big enough to get a buzzing atmosphere each evening.
The Location
The bus and train station are located almost next to each other. From here, take the road that leads towards the beach. Once you reach the beach, turn right. Walk for approximately thirty meters, and the hostel will be on your right. This may be difficult to spot, as the sign is simply a picture of a beetroot.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorms are perfect, which is rare for Sri Lanka. The beds are large with extremely comfy mattresses and pillows (perfect for hangovers!). And the air conditioner is available all day. Large lockers that are big enough for your backpack are present and each bed has reading lights and plug sockets. The showers are cold, but in this heat you won't care. These are located outside in the sun and housed in bamboo cubicles. The toilets are also located in these. The whole area is very clean, and like the rest of the property, has a very beachside and natural feel to it.
Common Spaces
Built like a beachside hut, with hammocks and floor cushions, this is a great place to relax whilst listening to the chilled out music that's played through the day. It's has a very laid-back vibe, and it's extremely likely you'll see guests kicking back with a beer in the evenings here too. A juice bar that serves food is also present, and there's a kitchen for guests to use to prepare their own food. If you're into yoga, you'll also love the dedicated yoga room in the main building. Wi-Fi is strong but can be slow when everyone is on it.
Summary
This is a great hostel with a buzzing atmosphere. It has a bit of a hip vibe to it, and it will attract surfers due to its location that's practically on the beach. In the evening, meeting people and having a few beers is easy, and during the day it's the perfect place to chill in a hammock.
